Hurricane Sandy, which is currently approaching the United States East Coast, threatens to be the biggest storm to ever hit the country.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s website raised the warning as to the size of the storm, which carries hurricane-force winds extending 165 kilometers (105 miles) from its center, Reuters reported on Sunday.

“The size of this alone, affecting a heavily-populated area, is going to be history making,” said Jeff Masters, a hurricane specialist.

The storm is predicted to reach mainland US between Delaware and the New York/New Jersey area on Monday night and threatens to strike Boston, Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia.

Major cities in the way of the storm could suffer a brutal impact.
