Pastor Accused of Covering Up “Biggest Evangelical S-ex Scandal of All Time”

Pastor Charles J. Mahaney, President of Sovereign Grace Ministries, stands accused of covering up s**ual abuse of children in churches affiliated with the ministry.  His friends, Albert Mohler and Mark Dever have stepped in to show support for him.

Mahaney and several other defendants are accused of covering up child abuse cases that happened within affiliated churches and the scandal is described as the biggest evangelical s-ex scandal of all time.

Up till now, Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky and Dever, Pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., have kept quiet, and waited until Maryland Judge Sharon V. Burrell dismissed most of the lawsuit on a technicality.

Now however, Mohler and Dever want to speak out and they have joined with Presbyterian minister Ligon Duncan in issuing a statement in support of Mahaney.

“We have stood beside our friend, C. J. Mahaney, and we can speak to his personal integrity,” the statement reads. It continues to say that in cases of serious wrongdoing like this, it is usually advisable for the Christian leader to step down from public ministry.

However, the statement continues, Mahaney was never accused of any direct wrongdoing, and in their opinion, Mahaney was charged with “founding a ministry and for teaching doctrines and principles that are held to be true by vast millions of American evangelicals.”

The statement continues to explain that for these reasons, they will not back away from Mahaney and they are thankful to have him as a friend.

Judge Burrell ruled against the lawsuit because, under Maryland’s statute of limitations, the law states that, a victim must file a complaint within three years after turning 18, and nine out of the 11 claimants did not do so. MOREHERE
