Why Operation Northwoods Would Have Worked

Operation Northwoods is a declassified military document proposing terrorist attacks. The proposals did not detail measures to protect America from terrorist attacks. Nor did the operation outline a counter-terrorist plan against any actual terrorists. These were terrorists attacks to be carried out by United States of America in its country as justification for into entering war with Cuba.

Once this false flag had been executed by CIA operatives, Cuba would have been blamed via planted and phoney evidence. If successful, and it would have been, these false flag attacks would have justified war with Cuba, and perhaps even started World War Three.

Thankfully, the Operation Northwoods proposal was promptly rejected by the Kennedy Administration in 1962. Yet, given the political climate of the sixties, this proposal was not a mere draft. Operation Northwoods was a plan.

And Operation Northwoods would have worked…

To understand why Operation Northwoods would have worked, you have to understand the political climate of the sixties. In 1962, America and Soviet Union were entangled in political and military tension now known as the Cold War. Communism was spreading rapidly, endangering American interests around the world. One country it spread to was Cuba. The Cuban Revolution of 1959, led by Fidel Castro, create an erosion of US – Cuban Relations. In 1960, Cuba consolidated trade with the Soviet Union.

The United States led attempt to overthrow Cuba, the 1961 Bay of Pigs Invasion, failed. But the Bay of Pigs was a covert operation disguised as a coup d’état. Operation Northwoods was a false flag attack on American soil to bring the United States into direct military conflict with Cuba.

To accomplish its goal, Operation Northwoods proposed several actions to terrorize the American citizens. The operation outlined sabotaged ships and planes riots on US military bases, along with terror campaigns in Florida. The most notable plan of Operation Northwoods involved hijacking American passenger planes. All to convince the American public, and abroad, that the United States was under attack.

During this time, anti-communist propaganda played directly on the fears of the American public. The Second Red Scare had Americans afraid of losing their freedom. And then there was the threat of having another communist country so close. Operation Northwoods was propaganda to take this fear to the next step.

Once these attacks had been executed, an investigation into the terrorist attacks would have commenced. This investigation would implicate the Cuba government as the responsible party. The U.S. would then enter war with Cuba, now with support from the American people. Operation Northwoods would have been a success.

The secret documents of Operation Northwoods were officially released to the public November 18th, 1997, and published online April 30th, 2001. Only thirty years would’ve passed before the American public suspected anything, beyond hints of a conspiracy (the official declassified top secret documents of Operations Northwoods [entitled Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Justification for US Military Intervention in Cuba]).

Conspiracy theorists count Operation Northwoods as an example of a potential false flag attack conducted by the U.S. military. Conspiracy theorists also consider the attacks on Pearl Harbor and the World Trade Centers as examples of false flags. Considering the national fervor during these perceived terrorist attacks, how could Operation Northwoods not have worked?
