Take some time to look in on the state of cancer therapies of late and you will find little difference from the debate that has raged since the 1930s. Advocates of chemotherapy/radiation/surgery versus the alternative treatments of diet and natural cures.

Since the stakes are so high, the arguments become quite personal and shrill, with the specter of conspiracy providing its ubiquitous shadow. Big Pharma shuts down any promising research, even assassinates doctors pursuing the promising alternative remedies. The medical industry makes enormous money from rubber-stamped but relatively worthless chemotherapy treatments. Alternatively, quacks and cranks take advantage of desperate people with false promises and unscientific remedies that don’t work.

The success rate for the hospital industrial complex promoted approach remains low and lowly regarded even by its practitioners. TIME Magazine recently declared triumphantly “No More Chemo!” in an article that really only reported upon a new cancer drug, imatinib.

But it’s not chemical treatment that is at issue. Any insulin dependent diabetic will testify to the efficacy of insulin; few argue against aspirin for headaches; even the alternative Simpson oil approach to cancer involves neuro-chemicals. Watch your carbohydrate and sodium intake is chemotherapy. The issue is success rates and anyone tackling it has to dive into the vast, unsettled morass that is the current state of what it takes to survive the disease.
