7 Delicious Food Podcasts You Should Be Listening To

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

I’m not going to lie …. I didn’t get onto the whole podcast bandwagon until late last Fall. I didn’t even really know what a podcast was. And then, The Food Blogger Online Summit fixed that right quick.

Most of you know I started my own podcast a few months ago – which is currently on a break (not a break up) and will return for season 2 in good time -  and since then, have been HOOKED on them!

Don’t let the title of “Podcast” freak you out. Especially food podcasts. They’re simply online radio shows filled with all kinds of scrumptious content. Unless they aren’t and believe me – there are some food podcasters out there that should probably put away their kitchen knives once and for all. Or at least their microphones. And while I’m no expert on podcasting (yet), I AM something of an expert in awesomeness so I thought I’d share 7 delicious food podcasts you should be listening to now because they. are. awesome. And who doesn’t need more awesome sauce in their lives? Nobody. That’s who.

7 Delicious Food Podcasts You Should Be Listening to Now

(seriously. go download them. Right now.)

1. Sharp & Hot

..with Chef Emily (I’m totally singing that right now and once you listen to the intro, you’ll get why). Emily Peterson is adorable and ridiculously talented. She covers all kinds of cooking and farm/garden to table type stuff that is relevant to all of us. Sharp & Hot is all about helping us home cooks fearlessly become more empowered in the kitchen. In Emily’s world, there is no such thing as a dumb question. Or maybe there is, but she promises not to laugh at you on radio. I wouldn’t mind too much though if she did because her laugh is right infectious. And her dog is named Rooster. How cute is that?

2. Cooking Issues

If you want to take your technical knowledge (or questions) up a notch, this guy gets ‘er done. There’s a lot of information in this podcast that’s above even my head and I like to think I’m pretty well versed in the ins and outs of culinary precision. But that’s why I listen! I love how Dave Arnold rattles on (in a good way) about all the latest innovative techniques, equipment, and ingredients in the food world. He’s super exciting and you get to expand your cooking repertoire and skills in ways you may not have even knew were a thing.

3. Let’s Get Real

I think I love Erica Wides. Okay, I probably don’t. But I DO love her cynical view of the mass food system and the way she articulates it. And by articulates, I mean artfully uses sarcastic syllabication to make her point. Mainly: If it isn’t food, it ain’t real. And anyone telling you different – the corporate food machine, industrial food complex and even Whole Foods – is lying to you. You guys are going to like this one. I guarantee it.

4. Spilled Milk

Do you like to laugh? Do you like to eat? You’re going to want to listen to Spilled Milk. Published in snack size bites (usually less than 30 minutes), Molly Wizenberg of Orangette and Matthew Amster-Burton of Roots and Grubs walk us through various ingredients and dishes in ways that no one else ever could…. Or would. Who else would infuse “chlamydia” “erotic pirate haiku” and make MORE innuendo jokes than even ME into a food show? They ARE the awesome sauce. Or at least they’ve drunk a lot of it.

….Drank? Drunk?

5. Joy the Baker

Joy Wilson of Joy the Baker and Tracy Benjamin of Shutterbean.com keep me company at the gym when I lift, yo. Their casual format and candid discussions of everything from food to meditation to Summer bucket lists (and more) make you feel like you’re on a call with your life time bestie. Who doesn’t love that?

6. What Doesn’t Kill You

Okay, time to get serious again. What Doesn’t Kill You by Katie Keiffer explores the policies, professionals, and performance of the food industry in the 21st century. In other words, if you’re interested in the higher level food politics stuff – actual laws, corporate actions and even headlines – this is your go to show. While Katy definitely doesn’t shy away from an opinion, she gets all sides of an issue, particularly in the meat industry. Her discussions lay the groundwork for real change in the food system and give backbone – or contradictory evidence – to our food politics.

7. In the Drink

I realize drinks aren’t food. But they do go in your mouth. And we all know how much we like our cock…tails. In his stellarly entertaining show, Joe Campanale talks everything to do with wine, cocktails and other beverages with winemakers, sommeliers, bartenders, beverage directors, and any other people who do great things with all things drink. As someone who has worked in the serving industry for the better part of a decade, I can say with all certainty: You will get a backstage pass to the people behind the drinks – and drink culture – in this show.

8. She Eats Loudly

Duh. I didn’t include numero ocho in the countdown title because it seemed a little too self serving. But I couldn’t NOT include it, could I? If you read this blog, you want to listen to my radio show. Or maybe you don’t. But you should because it’s even more real food, swearing, boozing and cooking than I do here. Nothing wrong with that. Unless you don’t dig real food, swearing, boozing or cooking. But you probably aren’t reading my blog then either.

What do you think of my top 7? Who is in yours? Which shows should we be listening to right now? What’s in your podcast playlist?
