Margaritas Revisited
My love affair with Mexican food goes way back. I frequent my favorite local standbys often (we have a Tenoch location about a mile from my house, which is both the best and worst thing ever), but also love checking out different spots. I visited the Waltham Margaritas for a fun blogger event last year, and just had a chance to check out the Nashua location a few weeks ago.
We made it just in time to try their spring food and drink specials. To start, I ordered a Baja Burro, a Mexican version of the Moscow Mule made with 1800 Coconut, house-made ginger beer, and fresh-squeezed lime juice. I’ve had regular 1800 Tequila before, but never the coconut version, and it was super coconut-y. The drink was refreshing and went down way too easily! K got a Mexican Mojito, made with Sauza Blue Silver Tequila, simple syrup, and muddled orange, lime, fresh mint and cilantro.
We ordered Juan’s Tenders to start, and opted for the buffalo-style with blue cheese dressing over the chipotle BBQ. I suppose it was rather a strange choice to get buffalo-sauced chicken tenders at a Mexican restaurant, but we both had a hankering for them, and it just seemed right. The buffalo tenders definitely had a kick!
For dinner, I ordered one of the seasonal specials, Juan’s Enchiladas – two corn tortillas stuffed with chicken and a mix of corn, fire roasted poblano peppers, and Chihuahua cheese, baked and covered with tomatillo sauce, melted cheese, onions and cilantro. A side of Mexican rice and black beans came on the side. I really liked my enchiladas – the green sauce was tasty, and it was loaded with chicken.
K got a taco trio, the From The Sea Combo, which came with an Original Fish Taco (Tortilla encrusted fish, roasted corn salsa, shredded red cabbage and chipotle aioli on a white corn tortilla), a Fish Taco del Mar (Baja style taco with beer-battered fish, onion, cilantro, orange slaw, mild three-pepper sauce and avocado on a white corn tortilla) and a Fried Shrimp Taco (fried shrimp, salsa fresca, roasted corn salsa and lettuce on a white corn tortilla with picante, hacienda and crema sauces). He was a fan of all the tacos — I tried the fried shrimp one and liked it a lot. The fried shrimp were perfectly cooked and so crispy!
The Nashua location of Margaritas is huge, and on a Friday night it was packed with the after work crowd — lots of cheery people ready for the weekend! Mexican food always makes things better, and we left full and happy.
Thanks to the folks at Margaritas for giving us a chance to try out the new seasonal menu!
