An illegal immigrant suspected of murdering five victims in Kansas and Missouri was nabbed by police on Wednesday morning following a two-state dragnet, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

“At 12:18 a.m., March 9, 2016, Pablo Antonio Serrano-Vitorino was arrested near the intersection of Highway 19 and Interstate 70, in Montgomery County, Missouri. Serrano-Vitorino was the subject of a 17- hour long manhunt and is wanted for the murder of four people in Kansas City, Kansas, and wanted for questioning in regard to a fifth homicide, which occurred in New Florence, Missouri,” according to MHP officials.

Serrano-Vitorino allegedly killed four men late Monday night at his neighbor’s house located in Kansas City, Kansas. He’s also suspected of being connected to the shooting of 49-year-old Randy Nordman in Montgomery County. Nordman also died from his wounds.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed in a statement that Serrano-Vitorino is a Mexican citizen who is illegally living in the U.S.

Former Detective Samuel Greenhouse said that the suspect was held at the Overland Park, Kansas, Municipal Court on Sept. 14, 2015. Serrano-Vitorino’s fingerprints generated an ICE detainer, but the agency “erroneously issued [it] to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, instead of the Overland Park Municipal Court.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s press office asserts that Serrano-Vitorino was released from custody without ICE being notified, but they didn’t explain why. ICE however confirmed that suspected spree-killer was deported by immigration officials back to Mexico in 2004. But they aren’t certain when he illegally re-entered the U.S.

Multi-Agency Police Dragnet Nails Dangerous Murderer

The widespread dragnet for the illegal-alien killer started on Monday. Law enforcement resources used in the manhunt were helicopters, police dogs and special operations teams. One of the four men shot by the illegal alien found the strength to use his cell phone to call police but he died before officers responded to the crime scene.

It appears there is a disturbing number of cases in which criminal aliens are released back into American society or re-enter the US after being deported.

After discovering the body of Randy Nordman, a witness called 911 and reported seeing a man running from Nordman’s property. At first police detectives didn’t know about the connection between the alleged killer Serrano-Vitorino and the victim Nordman.

Police have held back on releasing the names of the first four victims, but their relatives identified three of them to the local newspaper, the Kansas City Star, as being Mike Capps and brothers Clint and Austin Harter.

“I am very pleased with the outstanding work and dedication of all Patrol employees involved in this operation, said Colonel J. Bret Johnson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, I am also pleased with the quick response and teamwork that every agency provided in this capture. This type of cooperation may very well have prevented further loss of life. I also want to extend condolences to the families who have lost loved ones.”
