Fugitive Gang Member Arrested in Knox County

Knoxville, TN – The U.S. Marshals Service for the Eastern District of Tennessee announced today the apprehension of Roshaun Colbert, 36, in Knoxville. Colbert, a known gang member, was arrested today on Minnis Avenue by a team of Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force officers.

Colbert was on trial in April, 2017, for evading arrest, reckless endangerment, and attempted tampering with evidence. These charges were the result of an August 3, 2014, arrest when Colbert, while attempting to escape, nearly struck a police officer with his car. A new warrant was issued when Colbert fled the courthouse during jury deliberations and did not return for the verdict. Subsequent to his failure to appear, Colbert was also charged with multiple new offenses, including aggravated assault and aggravated burglary.

The Knoxville Police Department, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Marshals Service began to search for Colbert immediately after he absconded. Their investigation revealed that Colbert remained in the Knoxville area, and culminated in today’s arrest.

In addition to Colbert’s arrest, two other individuals wanted on local charges were also taken into custody.

“We are glad that Colbert is back in custody. His safe apprehension is the direct result of the dedication and perseverance of our officers,” stated Jim Fowler, U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Tennessee. “His arrest ensures he will be held accountable for the charges he was found guilty of by a jury of his peers,” he added.

Members of the U.S. Marshals’ led Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force involved in Colbert’s arrest include the Knoxville Police Department and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

The U.S. Marshals Service is the federal government’s primary agency for fugitive investigations.
