25 Things

Shaunna over at Perfectly Imperfect is having a 25 things link party today.  She does these funny little posts where she talks about 25 completely random & unrelated things about herself or her family or life or whatever.  they are silly & fun to read.  So today, since she’s making a party of it, I decided to join along.  Because really, who doesn’t like a party?

1) As if I needed more incentive, I’m now obsessively stalking Pinterest for baby shower ideas.  Some friends & I are throwing a shower for another friend who is pregnant with their first- a baby girl!  I get to do a lot of the decorations, so look forward to seeing some of that soon!

I’m loving this inspiration picture right now

2) I can’t stand reality TV.  The “prime time” kind that is.  I do love HGTV & TLC & all that happy girly stuff.  But I don’t understand why American Ideal is still on tv (gasp!)  Sorry, I just don’t.  I didn’t watch it when it started, and I certainly don’t watch it now.

3) Speaking of TV, we haven’t had cable in a while.  We got rid of it since it seemed like a “luxury” expense while B was still in med school.  But, we are getting it back NEXT MONTH!  We wanted to wait until we knew if we were moving or not (no sense in setting up cable only to move a month & a half later).  So, on March 1 (ish… whatever day we actually get it hooked up) I will be catching up on all the HGTV I’ve been missing.  Expect me to be a TV-zombie that day.

4) Oh, I guess that tells you, but by the way, our new rental home search was a failure, so we’re staying, again.  Bring on year 4 at our place.

5) I hate having to think of things to make for dinner.  It is very difficult & I feel like I’m always making the same things.  We eat a lot of pasta.  But, we are two somewhat picky eaters.  I try to make different things sometimes, but more often than not we end up not liking the new recipe.  Still, I will not give up.

6) I park my car 3/4 of a mile from my office.  Why?  Because parking is expensive in town!  When I got my job I figured I’d do the cheep parking long walk thing in the spring/summer/fall & get good, close (expensive) parking in the winter.  I also told myself that since I got cheep parking I could buy my lunches instead of packing them.  However, I’ve never actually gotten good parking in the winter, and I now rarely buy lunch in town & I almost always bring it.  Totally not as good.  I tough it out in rain & cold, snow & ice.  Ah well, all that walking burns some significant calories when you add it all up.

7) It feels very odd that I’m not working every weekend over the winter.  In the spring/summer/fall I almost always have a race to work (I have a part time job doing race timing… like 5K, 10K, half marathons, tris & the like).  All winter I only have one, and it’s done already a week and a half ago.  I have so much time on my hands!

8) Another reason I have more time on my hands is I’m not training for a marathon this year.  I decided no marathons in 2012 after running 3 over the course of a year.  I’m pooped!  A little time-out on the distance stuff to do some shorter fun races this year.  That means no 18 and 20 mile runs on the weekends.  Instant 3 hours I gained there every week!

9) I have so many plans for our house constantly running through my head.  I can’t get to them all fast enough!  It’s almost overwhelming.  Almost.  Mostly it’s fun.

10) I recently joined a “small group” at my church.  I go to what I guess might be called a “mega church” & I loooove it there.  I’ve never been in a small group though & felt like it was time.  It’s scary joining with a bunch of people you don’t know!  We’ve had our first meeting now & everyone’s really nice.  I think it’s going to go really well & am looking forward to developing with our little group :)

11) I’m missing my husband this week.  Long evenings, long weekends.  This week he’s working nights, so I’m not seeing him at all since we’re on opposite schedules.

12) I am totally sitting in the dark right now writing this.  I think that’s bad for your eyes.  But, I like sitting in the dark sometimes.  I almost never turn on the light in the kitchen at work when I go in there either.

13) Our Michigan weather this winter is seriously driving me nuts.  Where’s the snow?  Where’s the ice?  I usually complain about both, but this winter, where we have seriously lacked both & have instead had a lot of mild (40s!!) temps & rain, I’ve discovered I’m not above praying for some real winter weather.  Winter is supposed to be the one season when my backyard freezes & Mojo can play in the backyard.  But not this year!  We’ve only had a few days that it was cold enough for long enough that it froze back there.  Lame.  When I was up north a couple weekends ago I took some pictures, including this one, exclaiming, “Winter does exist!!!”

14) In some ways I still kinda feel like a kid just out of college.  Does anyone else feel this way?  At what point does one start to feel like an actual “grown-up”?  Never?

15) Is it bad to wear flowers & bows in your hair to the office?  I like them & I want to & newsflash, I’m a girl.  So it should totally be ok right?  This is 2012, I can be girly in the office right?  We are a pretty casual place.  Hum… I think it’s ok, as long as the flower isn’t as big as my head.  I saw a girl at a training meeting today with a bow in her hair… Totally working that.  :)

16) I’m focusing a lot of my home-improvement brain power on our bedroom lately.  It’s kinda getting a major overhaul, but very slowly.  For some reason, our walls are looking kinda pink to me right now.  No likey.

17) I’ve been checking out people’s mailboxes while running through town lately.  Like, looking at their design from the street, not “checking them out” as in “digging through them”.  (That’s against the law people!)  We need a new mailbox.  Ours is pretty horrible.

18) I miss fall…  ok, mostly I just miss the cider mill… ok mostly I just miss the donuts.  You caught me.

19) Right now I’m thinking 25 things are a lot of things.

20) We just recently found out that one of our friends is getting married in St. Thomas this coming fall.  We are going & I am sooo excited!  This friend was our best man in our wedding, so of coarse we have to go!  No complaining here!

21) I bought paint this weekend to paint one of the rooms in our house.  Can you guess which one?  I kinda told you already.  I have it in mind to paint many of our rooms in the coming months, but one is first on the list!  Last year we painted the bathroom & the kitchen… this year is pretty much everything else.  So excited to get at it, probably this coming weekend!  Eeee!

22) I bought a laser level a couple of weeks ago… does this give you any hints about some paint projects I have on my list?

23) I am a seriously horrible speller.  My mom used to make us memorize spelling lists & have tests even in the summer because we were so bad.  We had this stupid spelling computer game she would make us play all the time too.  I hated that thing.  It made horrible noises at you if you spelled the word wrong & made to try over & over again ’till you got it right.  Dumb.  When I was in high school & we had to write an “ode” poem, I wrote mine to spell check.

24) Oh my gosh I really want some frozen yogurt w/ chocolate chips right now… mmmm… it’s winter, why do I want this?  Maybe I should make some mint chocolate chip ice cream.

25)  Since Picnik is leaving us (sad face) I’ve started using the program PhotoScape to edit my photos.  I actually might like it for the things I need it for better than Picnik.  Granted, I never had the extra bells & whistles that Picnik offers because I never used the paid version, but PhotoScape is working fabulously for me now!  And it’s free!  Very happy with it.

So there’s my 25 things!  Totally random.  Be sure to check out the rest of the link ups over at Perfectly Imperfect!
