Baby Shower Sneak Peak - Baby Girl Burlap Bubble Wreath

The past couple of weeks I’ve been spending getting ready for our friend’s baby shower.  Some friends & I are throwing a local shower for them, because their families live far away and are hosting their own showers.  Yea I get to do decorations!  I’ve been pretty excited to come up with some ideas… not like I needed an excuse to obsessively check Pinterest right?  So the shower is tomorrow & I’m pretty much ready!  I wanted to give you a little sneak peak of one of the decorations I prepared.  This is the wreath I created this past weekend for the baby girl shower.

The supplies I used included a foam wreath, a roll of burlap (from the floral department) a lot of straight pins & some felt.  The bubbles of burlap for the wreath were fairly easy to create, but somewhat time consuming.  I originally was going to cut the burlap ribbon in half & create the bubbles with smaller squares, but I’m so glad I didn’t.  I used the regular width of the ribbon, and just cut it into squares that were as square as possible.  Burlap’s kinda different that it’s hard to get it cut into perfect squares, but almost is good enough!

Once I had a giant stack of burlap squares, I started folding them & pinning them to my foam wreath.  Here’s a picture demonstration of how to fold the squares for application.

Step One – fold square in half.
Step Two – fold first corner to the front bottom point.
Step Three – fold second corner to the bottom point on the opposite side.  Pinch all 4 corners together while you grab a straight pin.
Step Four – stick straight pin through all four corners, make sure you catch all of them, since you may not have a perfect square, you want to make sure that you have all corners, even if they don’t match up perfectly.

Then you stick the folded burlap into the wreath.  I fluffed up each bubble once it was on the wreath to make them look a little more full.  Continue doing this over & over until the wreath and all pin heads are covered.  Once this was done it looked lovely & I was pretty proud of myself.

Then I made 6 cute little flowers to add to my wreath.  Two light purple, two dark purple & two pink.  I love this kind of felt flower, I’ve made them before for my bathroom hooks, but these ones I made a little smaller.  I wanted a kind of scattering of little flowers for this wreath.  I was going to try to pin the flowers into the wreath, but my straight pins weren’t long enough to go through the burlap bubbles & hold the flowers there, so I ended up hot gluing them.

Then I added a strip of lace to use to hang the wreath.  I attached the lace to the back of the wreath with a straight pin & hot glue for extra hold.

I can’t wait to bring this wreath to the shower tomorrow.  I have so many other little shower decor projects that I’ll share next week!  As well as the gifts I’m giving to them, all of which were hand made :-)   I’ve been a busy bee.  Can’t wait to show you next week!!
