Nightstand- Refinished to Match

On Friday, I shared with you a guest post that I did a while back for Insideways of my new nightstand that I got for Christmas from my parents.  I wanted the nightstands on either side of our bed to match.  They didn’t necessarily have to be the same design, but I wanted the colors to match, so that they would go nicely together. So, I ended up refinishing my old bedside table in the same finish as the new one!

I thought I’d show you a little more of the Martha Stewart glaze up close.  Again, I used the Mercury glaze, and I used it after painting the table straight out of the can base white.  I used a dry brush of the glaze, so that it went on very thinly & slightly uneven.

I dry brushed it on Sunday morning, then left for church.  This glaze takes a long time to dry.  Even though I just dry brushed it, it still took a lot longer than anything else I’ve ever used.  When I came back, I went at it with a rag, just kind of buffing any paint away that wasn’t dry yet & softening the lines.  Then I let it sit for another hour or so before waxing it.

This table actually took a lot longer to get through than the other table.  That’s because of the little X legs.  They were very time consuming & annoying!  I had to do all sides of every leg, so it took some patience.

I really like how this turned out.  This table has had quite a life.  I don’t even remember where it came from, possibly my aunt & uncle?  Anyway, I got it for college & painted it orange & blue.  It was mostly orange but with blue stenciled stars on it.  Lovely….. Then after college my brother & I stripped it & stained it, and it’s been that way for about 8 years, following me around to all the different rental places I’ve had since college (uh, that’d be 6).  It’s a great little fold-able table.  Very versatile.

Too bad I don’t have any pictures of it when it was bright orange & blue huh?  Hehe!  So this little table is now on Brendan’s side of the bed.  It fits nicely there & complements the new bedside table that’s on my side.  Mine’s a little more girly than his!

The room isn’t really big enough to get a picture that contains both tables, but you can check out last Friday’s post to see the other one if you missed it.  Gosh I need to get a bed skirt on that bed.  Yikes!  And a headboard… and… and… and…  Yea, the room needs work.  I’m workin’ on it though, we’re gettin’ there!
