Scenes from a Tiny Kitchen: Creative Kitchen Decorating and Storage

Tiny kitchens call for creative storage and decorating solutions.
My kitchen is a diminutive 5′ x 5′ ~ making decorating and storage a real challenge.
By looking at a few old vintage pieces with a fresh eye, I’ve been able to put them into service doing double-duty as both functional storage and fun decor.
Here’s a little tour of the small space solutions in my itty bitty kitchen:
This poor matryoshka mama was all alone at a friend’s yard sale.  I knew I could find a perfect place (and a new role) for her in my home.  She’s turned out to be my absolute favorite piece in my entire kitchen since she serves the ever-important role of salt pinch bowl.  She holds an ample amount of kosher salt so I always have enough salt on hand to season a sauce, add to a batter, or pour into a boiling pot of water for pasta.  Because she has a lid, I don’t have to worry about the salt getting dirty or dusty while I’m cooking.
When my girls outgrew their vintage tin dollhouse, I couldn’t bear to banish it to the garage.  At the same time, I was looking for a bread box that would be the right size and style for my kitchen.  The dollhouse, with all of its differently sized rooms was perfect for organizing our breads on the counter!  The “bathroom” upstairs provides just the right space for a porcelain tub of butter.
From my years in the cake business, I have cake pans in spades, but since I’ve been on hiatus, I’ve only needed a few standard size pans on occasion.  So, I decided to store the larger pans in a cupboard while the pans that get more regular use were stacked and displayed to look like tiered cakes.  Form and Function — Not only do I have easy access to my pans, but they look sweet and make my cake stands feel useful too.
To save counter space by the sink, I keep my sponge and collection of dish soap, counter spray and hand soap on a cake pedestal that I created by attaching a dollar store candlestick to a glass plate with E6000.  To keep garlic in a dark, yet aerated place to keep it fresh, I store it in a small bamboo steamer basket.  I added a second layer to store shallots as well.
What fun solutions have you come up with for your kitchen decor or storage challenges?  Please share.
