ETCETERAS: Etched Glass Milk Bottle

I have such a fun project to share with you today. Have you ever etched glass? It’s not as hard as it sounds, in fact, it was super easy and I can’t wait to create more etched glass pieces. I happened upon this project because of a nice reader.

She left a comment on one of my painted jar posts. I emailed her back and she mentioned she a glass etching product called Etchall and sent me some to play with.

The process is as easy as stenciling. I selected a small bottle that originally had some type of dipping sauce in it. The shape reminded me a small dairy bottle so I decided to use my alphabet stencils to spell out milk. I used a piece of painters tape to make sure my letters were straight.

And then to make sure I didn’t drip any etching cream around the letters I taped the area around the stencils. You want to make sure everything is securely adhered before applying the etching cream.

I propped the bottle between a rock and shell because that’s what I had within reach. The directions state to use a heavy coat and this was my interpretation. You leave the etching cream on for 15 minutes and then rinse off.

And here’s the finished product. Unlike glass paint, this is now etched into the bottle and will never come off. No curing time or washing gently.
