UPCYCLING: Sea Green Beach Glass Jars

Spring is officially here and my thoughts are jumping ahead to warm summer days and the beach. I love sea glass and over the years have made several faux sea glass projects.

For these pretty sea green bottles I used Martha Stewart Glass Paint. In order to get the frosty sea glass look, you need to use the Frosted Translucent Glass Paint.

Start with Martha Stewart Glass Paint in Frost Translucent. I used a mixture of White, Beach Glass (blue) and green. The green paint was Martha Stewart Glass Paint in a gloss finish not the frost finish which added a little character to the finished product.

I started with a coat of white frost paint and slowly added color. You want to brush on the paint evenly and in a very thin layer going in the same direction. My first coat was vertical. Let the paint dry and then paint a horizontal coat.

The paint becomes more translucent and frosty as it dries. This glass paint cures in 3 weeks. If you’re impatient like I am, you can put your jars in a cold oven and then turn on the oven. Bake at 300 degrees for one hour. Turn off the oven, letting the jars cool inside oven. You don’t want to put the jars in a pre-heated oven or they may crack.
