'Houston, We Have a Problem' at 9-Acre La. Sinkhole Monster Quakes, Spews, Expands Again
Louisiana state and parish officials advised the public late Sunday afternoon that after an increased level of seismic activity in the Napoleonville Salt Dome area, the disastrous 9-acre Bayou Corne sinkhole expanded, taking more of the parish Cajun land down into the monster chemical spewing hole.
“The Office of Conservation is advising the public that a large “burp” event was recorded at the sinkhole shortly after 3 a.m on the morning of Sunday, March 17,” Assumption Parish officials advised at 5:20 P.M. Sunday.
The officials say that the latest loss of land swallowed by the monster sinkhole is related to the recent period of elevated deep seismic activity around Houston-based Texas Brine LLC’s failed Oxy 3 cavern in the 1-mile by 3-mile Napoleonville Salt Dome and the sinkhole.
“Houston, I think we’ve had another BURP!” reported Bayou Corne resident Jo Celle on Facebook’s Bayou Corne Sinkhole page around noon Sunday. “I smell it and have been feeling it all night.”
Celle is among locals who remain in the danger zone. She has been vigilant in her new role as citizen reporter.
Increased levels of micro-quakes and a spasmodic burst were reported Tuesday night. Elevated seismic activity has continued throughout the week as the hole spewed more hydrocarbons into the once pristine beloved swampland.

The red line in the photo above depicts the area of swampland that went into the monster hole when the “burp” in the sinkhole happened early this morning.
A pattern of seismic activity followed by a “burp” and the monster sinkhole expanding has been observed over the 7-month disaster.
The sinkhole expansion was predicted by Deborah Dupré on Wednesday.
“As has happened in past events, such as the period of elevated seismic activity that preceded the Jan. 19 ‘burp’ event, the recent period of elevated activity was observed for several days prior to a sinkhole event,” officials stated Sunday.
The seismic activity is now more shallow than usual over the past nine months since the quakes began.
Officials say that environment caving into the hole and water moving in it are the cause of more seismic activity.
“Though the deep subsurface activity appears to have calmed significantly, Conservation’s contracted experts continue to note shallower seismic activity likely related to slumping of the sinkhole sides and water movement in the sinkhole and immediately below it.”
Monitoring is constantly ongoing in the area, according to officials.
“Conservation will advise the public of significant changes in subsurface conditions,” they report.
Celle told Deborah Dupré Sunday afternoon in a chat box, “I am too super stressed right now to be able to have any kind of intelligent conversation.”

Deborah, thanks for all of your great reporting! My question is how likely is it that these caverns will blow. From what I read, they need oxygen and it’s unlikely oxygen will mix with it. (a couple of repliers opinions). I truly pray for those that live there and the surrounding area. For I am certain the health risks/costs are unimaginable and will spread far and wide. Larger, yet, is if this whole area blows it could start the largest recorded catastrophe in history; changing the US in more ways than we can imagine from coast to coast.
Is that, perhaps, what all the DHS, military, weapons, armory, and government prepping is about? Does the government know something we don’t and that’s why it’s like pulling teeth to get the story in the mainstream media? Not one person I’ve spread this story to has heard of it and I’m in AZ with family and friends throughout the US.
