115 Earthquakes at El Hierro Island (Canary Islands) 12.23.13; 72 on 12.22.13

El Hierro earthquake activity has spiked over the last 48 hours, and shows no sign of slowing down. There were 72 earthquakes recorded yesterday, and 115 today.  This is at location 27.1 N / 18.5 W – 28.1 N / 17.5 W

The beginning of the month of Dec. 2013 brought only 2 days with double digit totals, the 6th @ 14, and the 7th @ 13. So far this month there have been 7 days with 0 earthquakes. Today’s activity brings the total of the month so far to 246. This is 100 more earthquakes than the area experienced the entire month of November. The last time there were over 100 earthquakes in a month here was March of this year with a total of 517. The daily high for that month was 160, the daily low was 6 days of 0 earthquakes.
