New Madrid Active, Reawakening Any Time, 'Something's Going On There' New Study says

The New Madrid fault zone in central United States is active and could spawn large earthquakes as large as those between 1811 and 1812, scientists reported Thursday.

Add a few manmade triggers, such as military scalar weaponry, HAARP, and fossil fuel extraction and wastewater injection to the vulnerable area, and bingo: a potentially greater national false flag than 9/11, or at least, the odds for disaster increase. 

‘Something’s going on there’

It is “not dead yet,” U.S. Geological Survey seismologist Susan Hough said. She was one of the authors of the research published online by the journal Science.

“Our new results tell us that something is going on there, and therefore a repeat of the 1811-1812 sequence is possible,” Hough said.

Whether tiny quakes of late mean the fault is old and dying or locking and loading for another massive earthquake has sparked a long and lively debate among scientists. 

New Madrid has been poorly understood since it is in the middle of the continent, far from plate boundaries.

Online users have been watching researchers and citizen journalists stay abreast the debate related to just how much of a hazard New Madrid poses.

Previous mainstream reported studies had suggested it may be shutting down.

The new study, however, suggests otherwise. Hough and USGS geophysicist Morgan Page in Pasadena, California, analyzed past quakes in the New Madrid region and used computer modeling.

The New Madrid zone stretches 250 km including parts of Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.

New Madrid 1811 and 1812 Quakes

The New Madrid Seismic Zone is a series of ancient faults cutting the Midwest and now hidden beneath the Mississippi River’s thick mud.

In late 1811 and early 1812, the New Madrid earthquakes struck on the Reelfoot Fault — four big earthquakes and many, many aftershocks emanating from the borders between Missouri, Tennessee and Arkansas. With each temblor estimated at between magnitude 7 and magnitude 8, the seismic energy shook all of eastern North America and destroyed the town of New Madrid, Mo. The 1811 and 1812 quakes from magnitude 7.5 to 7.7 rattled the central Mississippi River valley.

Chimneys fell and boats capsized. Farmland sank and turned into swamps. The death toll is unknown. [Watch video below.]

After wreaking havoc 200 years ago with huge earthquakes that made the Mississippi River flow backwards, the New Madrid Seismic Zone has continued to rattle the Midwest with about 200 quakes every year.

The USGS estimates a 7 percent to 10 percent chance of that happening within the next 50 years. That estimate, however, omits the manmade triggers.
