Pastor – check your facts about Yellowstone…, first of all the road to Old Faithful was NEVER CLOSED. The only road that was temporarily closed was the Firehole Lake Drive Loop – which was repaired within a few days of closing and is now re-open. The water is being heated in the cracks in the magma (which is not liquid lava by the way – it is mostly softened hot rock) so the geysers or hot spots can form anywhere at any time.. it all depends on where the water is moving. We have had higher than normal precipitation so there has been a lot of water underground that is boiling and shooting to the surface through the geysers. Your ignorance of how Yellowstone works is astounding. Stop the fear mongering… the scientist you’re talking to has a better understanding of what is going on than you. I live next to the park and go in there very often… I know what is happening there…. the ground only heated up for a short time in one place… this happens all the time. In fact there were parts of the park that were so hot in the past that they had to shut down those areas – but now those same areas are cooled down and back to normal. Only 15% of the magma under the caldera is liquid (lava) – this is not a regular volcano with lava flows….. it is more of a giant tea kettle full of water sitting on top of a stove boiling away.

Ive heard of hot spots forming and water spewing off and on in the past, ( btw in limited spots and limited times as well ). please tell me why the US Gov has over 140 + deep underground military bases? why are some of those bases so huge you could put a city the size of Wichita ks in it? BTW we are not stupid, the magma chamber in yellowstone HAS been growing and growing and recently growing very rapidly, soft hot rock doesnt build like liquid magma does. The 15% melted figure is fraudulent. Arrived at by using data from as far back as 1984, and by not using data from the last 3 years.
The actual figure is 32% or better.
In one big connected magma chamber.

The flow of helium 4 in recent years indicates a flow of magma from the mantle.
The harmonic tremors these days indicate flowing magma.
That is molten material.
