What I hear in that clip is a manipulation of numbers that disguises both the reporter’s and Prof. Reich’s underlying assumption, which is Vonnegut’s old thesis: “The Rich are at war with the poor. Prospects for peace are awful.”
Just come out and say it, like the old song, “Tax the rich, feed the poor, until there are, no rich no more.”
And if 2/3 of the spending cuts are to come from entitlement programs, could it not be because 2/3 of the spending goes to those programs? Where else would one cut, if not upon the most expensive programs?
Want to increase the job, and therefore income tax, base? Cut corporate income taxes to zero. The number of companies that build plants in the U.S. and relocate here will create a boom that shakes the rest of the world.
