Abolish Stock Trading

What would happen if we were to abolish trading of securities?

What if our country, as a whole, had to stick with long-term investments?

In the recent past-say the last 100 years-our once strong and secure country (both in economics and in ethics) has decayed dramatically. This decay has been paralelled with the progression of trading. More people now seek to make money by either selling goods and services provided by extranationals or trading stock on the various markets around the world.

“What would happen to our economy if we were to force a shift?” is the question of the day for me. It is my opinion that we, as a nation and as a people, would see some tremendous changes in not only the quality of our goods and services, but in the stability of our currency.

Eliminated would be the money-grabbing that permeates Wall Street. Gone would be the Day Traders-those who make money off other peoples’ work. We would be forced as a society to look to the future instead of seeking immediate gratification.

Also, major corporations would be forced to look to long-term solutions to their monetary woes rather than shorting our society through their quest for the quick dollar regardless of the cost to humanity. No longer would we see the layoffs followed by the hiring of new, cheaper workers and we would all feel more secure.

While I do not believe this will happen anytime soon, it is an entertaining thought.
