Westside Kelowna candidate takes issue with characterization as “no-show” to techers forum.

With respect to your article “Westside-Kelowna candidates first to square off” your characterization of my absence as a “no show” is inaccurate – and carries a negative connotation that does not accurately reflect the situation relating to my non –attendance at the foregoing event.

At the time invitation was proffered, I advised the Central Okanagan Teachers’ Association that I would be unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict.

That in no way is to be construed with me or my party taking the issue lightly.

Education is of paramount concern to me.  I have two daughters who are teachers and I understand the position of the teachers and realize how important the profession is and how sometimes it is underappreciated. My personal stance on the issue of education is that it is a serious priority and that unless we get the debt situation fixed there will be even less money available for education.  Unfortunately the BC Liberals took $2.5 million out of education and health care in the Okanagan alone, and gave it to private industry through the Pacific Carbon Trust, who in turn made large donations to the Liberal government. I believe the BC Conservatives are the only party that can provide long-term financial stability for success and growth in the education field.
