The Food Stamp cuts will cut into food budgets in the coldest months of the year. Hungry people are already crashing food bank budgets. With outsourced jobs, business downsizing and shutting down, more people are sleeping in their cars—some are even sleeping on Wal Mart parkings, with the permission of some stores.

Some stores are restricted state law or local ordinance from allowing people to  overnight in their cars on store parking lots. With little space in shelters, food stamp cuts and food pantry shelves bare, it’s going to be a dangerous winter for a lot of people.

Across the country, food banks that were already struggling to feed the millions of U.S. citizens who need nutritional assistance are now bracing for a surge in demand for help as deep cuts in the food stamp program take effect. According to NBC News, one in seven Americans will be affected as Congress allowed $5 billion in funding to be stripped from food assistance programs by declining to renew emergency programs started by President Barack Obama in 2009. The reductions kicked in on Friday, Nov. 1.

USA Today reported that 37 million Americans were reliant on food banks to meet their nutritional needs in 2010, up from 25 million in 2006. The numbers have only grown through the recession brought on the deregulation of the financial markets and cuts to social programs...MOREHERE

Too late …. all the Right Wing False Prophets said it would happen on Nov 1…

    They should be stoned !!!

    It didn’t happen.

this is a slow moving train wreck; people are stealing food, beating each other up in the street–taking shoes, and the domestic violence rate is increasing. and few are working for their own srvival: canning, gardening, barter and networking

I agree with you there.. I also think the Bankster Crash caught most people off guard… It did me… and left most without the means to accomplish the survival preparations….

Got a garden, and I’ve been buying every book from the late 1800s and early 1900s that teach how they used to do it before all this Chinese crap came along…

Like how to make ammonia, or capture methane, convert a refrigerator to a compressor-less machine, and a thousand other things…

Domestic violence, unrest, chaos, usually accompany bad to worse economies… there’s little to no hope for many people, and they are mad, and don’t know how to express it any other way.

True. Domestic violence is going insane.

I think the food prices are ridiculous!

The food stamp program was never meant to be for ever. But some how its meaning and purpose changed from helping the poor temporarily to helping those in power to remain in power. …..interesting concept; food and other freebies in exchange for your vote.

      “Panis et circenses”?

      • muckracker1

Bread and circuses ” (or bread and games) (from Latin: panem et circenses) is a metaphor for a superficial means of appeasement.

And in a time like this the gov. wants to hinder people from raising their own food?? Is it not time for the people to realize that they have no friends in Washington???

    • muckracker1

you can buy seeds on food stamps to grow crops, but where can u grow them? wrong season, many people don’t have the experise ir space to do indoor food greenhoioyse—landlords, space. and, even if you want to grow a garden, some dumazz cities forbid it with zoning. to me it is absolutely to force people to grow ornamrntal grass, when they cant have gardens in front or back yards. and then ther are the rapacious hhome owner associations…………

Let the inner city freeloaders starve. Worthless, reproducing scum of the earth. All they know how to do is FK and have kids they are unable to care for, except if on the public wallet.
The people who lost jobs since 2008 will find an honest way to make ends meet. They will pick up odd jobs, work for family etc. heck, clean someone’s house for them and you can earn that $40

But, the inner city slobs who spend their time on their back with the latest, greatest prison release will NOT consider actually working. They are entitled.
So. Go starve and take our spawn with you. Time to end this culture of lazy free loaders.
I will help any and all people I know who are actual honest and hard working folks. I also have lots of small projects that I need to have done. The projects that people do will allow them to maintain their dignity. They would rather WORK for what they get, instead of expecting the world to provide for them.

“Let the inner city freeloaders starve.” The problem with this is that for freeloaders this is a way of life and they are better and more practiced at it than you are. They know every trick in the book and are streetwise.Think old wild west… without the morals, and with the survival of their families at stake you wont stand a chance, once law and order break down.

We could all have free health care for the cost of just the web site !! he spent our money 360,000,000,00 dollars and more ,we have only 317,000,000,00 million people in the USA ,that enough to have given every person in the USA over a million dollars worth of coverage !!!and you would never need food stamps and this ass spent it on a web site that doesn’t work

the phony arab spring was the model. when everyone fell for that test run? they then used it on the rest of the world. here it comes…

What a load of crap! My sis is on food straps and the difference was only 7.00. She is not taking to the streets protesting for a lousy seven dollars. LOL. Don’t believe the fear mongering I would be more concerned with the GMO food and the aluminum and strontium they are dumping in the skies every day!
