Boehner Gives Obama A Blank Check, House Republicans Agree To Raise Debt Limit Until March 2015 (Video)

More smoke and mirrors in election year, suddenly the debt ceiling is not a problem. 

Behind a closed-door meeting Monday, House Republicans discussed a plan to increase the debt ceiling until March 2015, past the upcoming congressional elections in November, but they did repeal cuts to military pensions that were part of the recently passed federal budget.

Then 18 hours later, House Speaker John Boehner told reporters the GOP proposal couldn’t pass because “we don’t have 218 votes, and when you don’t have 218 votes, you have nothing.”

Many conservatives opposed raising the debt ceiling under any circumstance, but Democrats made it clear they would unanimously reject any measure that tacked other provisions into an increase in the borrowing limit.

Because Boehner did not have a Republican majority, he decided to split up the GOP plan by holding separate votes on repealing the military pension cuts and a clean debt ceiling increase. What is a “clean” debt ceiling increase?

The House on Tuesday passed the military pension measure, which now goes to the Senate for further consideration.

Many Republicans not sure

Republicans that were facing pressure from conservatives ahead of the November vote were reluctant to back an increase in the borrowing limit, a core issue for the political right because it represents rising federal debt.

Boehner tried to put the blame for a clean debt ceiling bill on President Barack Obama, saying the rising federal debt was his fault.

“It’s the President driving up the debt and the President wanted to do nothing about the debt that’s occurring, will not engage in our long-term spending problem,” Boehner said. “And so, let his party give him the debt ceiling increase that he wants.”

At the same time, Boehner declared himself disappointed about what he called a “lost opportunity” to address unsustainable federal spending.

America is headed toward financial armageddon, congress is no longer representing the American people. Obama is racing to spend America into 3rd world status. Destruction of America from within.

It seems that both political parties are working in tandem to bankrupt America for their own political gain. They use this debt ceiling like a tool, to instill fear into a nation of sheeple who still cannot figure out that the game is rigged against them. They still believe their vote counts and maybe after this election, things will be different. All the while the politicians maneuver for political position going into the 2014 elections, by simply raising the debt ceiling until March 2015.  God help America.

There have been conversations between Speaker John Boehner’s office and the White House on lifting the debt limit, but no negotiations over a package … Time is running short for Congress to raise the nation’s borrowing limit — the Treasury Department says it will run out of spending authority by Feb. 27. Congress recesses this week on Wednesday, then takes a week off and comes back Feb. 25 — just two days ahead of the deadline. …

“On Friday, top Republican aides started zeroing in on a debt limit bill that would lift the nation’s borrowing limit until February or March 2015, while reversing recent changes to cost of living benefits for the military and updating the rate by which doctors who treat Medicare patients get reimbursed ….

“The nine-month … ‘doc fix’ — is meant to attract Democratic votes. But senior Republican sources are skeptical that this package will be able to pass.  … Furthermore, House and Senate Democrats — along with the White House — have said they support a clean debt-limit bill — one without policy strings attached. … Republicans will not bring a bill to the floor that will fail … If support for any package is weak within the House GOP conference … [GOP leadership] will likely have to settle on passing a debt limit increase without any attached policy”

All they are worried about is attracting votes! They are playing the American people for the fool!
