Mayor Rahm Emmanuel has called on the assistance of the United States military to help patrol the blood-soaked streets of Chicago. The unprecedented move is one step away from declaring total martial law in the nation’s third most populous city.
During 4th of July weekend, 82 people were shot in an 84 hour period, with a total of 14 succumbing to their injuries. Though the number of murders has fallen drastically since the 1990′s, the violence in Chicago seems to be increasing dramatically.
“It’s groundhog day here in Chicago again,” Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said this morning, in a statement that touched on the violent weekend. “The results were a lot of shootings and a lot of murders unfortunately,” he said. “Yesterday was the day that really blew it up for us in our strategy.”
With their failing strategies to protect the public, city officials will now go in a different direction and call upon the services of the National Guard.
The U.S. military will act as a liaison for the Chicago Police Department and will not be given free reign to enforce the law, at least at this moment.
The city, which has been given the nickname “Chiraq” because of it’s violent present, will now see increased police presence and armed guards in dangerous neighborhoods.

Readers are invited to visit the article on Wikipedia on Crime in Chicago. Interestingly, the rate of murder has trended *down* significantly since the 1980′s and 1990′s when it peaked. Further, crime is overwhelmingly gang-related and black-on-black. Interesting short article.

I acknowledge your sarcasm. Gun control just means good people cannot own handguns to protect themselves. Of course the criminal element always has guns. This is by design. Notice how they called in the troops and declared Martial Law? In other words…the people begging for the governments help. thus more big government. Now the control of the city belongs to the Fed’s. No surprise Rahm (the dual citizen) Emmanuel is at the heart of this. He wants this country turned over to his people more than you could believe. And he is only helping further their agenda. The use of the word “Chicago” is very broad and this sites use and even other mainstream medias use of the word “Chicago” let’s the outsiders believe that Chicago is a very dangerous, impoverished city. Small pockets of gang warfare areas exist but the city as a whole is not subject to these biases.

Gun control limits the rights of good non-criminals to defend themselves. Out west where people are often armed, crime is not so bad as Chiraq or DC.
Being so soft on crime is another problem our society has. In China or Russia gang violence would be dealt with through many executions. Only in the liberal USA could such criminal behavior be rewarded with a warm bed, 3 square meals a day, cable TV, and recreation facilities, free legal representation, school courses, job training… and still fail to be successful.
Wait until the economy tanks and the majority are desperate!
