The Mayhem Continues

When a California Rep recently asked where and how did these assailants get the weapons used in the most recent mass shooting typifies the failure of both political parties to understand that semi and fully automatic weapons have to be outlawed. The wave of unabated violence from our local police, gang violence, and lone gunmen have continued for far too long. More disturbing is the fact that as a society we seem to be powerless to stop the mayhem. And that in itself says allot about the direction our nation is headed.

Questions that need answers have to be asked. Is society to be blamed for the steady flow of deranged individuals who seek some kind of notoriety, a personal vendetta or revenge against those who may or not have persecuted them? Is society to blame for the reoccurrence of those who betray their dignity or self-respect and take leave of their senses and commit the atrocities we have just seen in California and elsewhere?

The answers just may surprise us all. For the past 50 years through domestic economic policies, international entanglements, educational restructuring, and the cultural shift as demonstrated by the trends in music, video games and movies have all influenced generational behaviors. As a result, our whole society has shifted away from the moral integrity that we as a nation had 65 years ago.

The all too familiar scene in the aftermath has been repeated too many times. We have failed to understand we have always   fallen short for having the conventional wisdom and the political fortitude to first understand that our society shares much of the blame for the continuation of violence through-out our nation. And secondly, semi and fully automatic weapons have no place in a civilized society.

They say recognizing a problem is the first step in solving a problem. The biggest hurdle in stopping the escalation of violence all across America is that the institutions we have entrusted to educate, to bring balance in society, to unify this nation, and to provide the quality of life befitting all the technological medical and scientific marvels of the 21st century have yet to be incorporated into policies that will have the results needed to stem the tide of the violence that now continues to run amok.

Once we understand this and put in play policies that drastically reforms the current way of thinking by our politicians and our current policies our society will continue to be witness to more atrocities either by deranged individuals, gang related violence or by our local police.
