Reports suggest that a 4 million ounce (124.4 tonnes) sell-order, worth $6 billion (Dh22 billion) at current prices, by a large investment bank spooked the markets and led to this decline.
“It appears that the significant selling pressure last Friday was amplified by a four million ounces (124.4 tons of gold) selling order, to be executed on Comex opening. This was clearly too much for a relatively empty market to handle, and the initial pressure resulted into waves of selling, which in turn attracted further selling all the way down,” Gerhard Schubert, Head of Precious Metals at Dubai-based Emirates NBD, wrote in his weekly report.

Four percent has declined in the international market since yesterday evening. In India, the decline was 3.5% of gold and silver prices too fell yesterday. Most analysts predict that the downturn would continue.

The price of gold was down by about 4 percent on Friday. Gold has now fallen below $1500 an ounce for the first time since July 2011. Overall, the price of gold has fallen by about 10 percent since the beginning of the year, and it is about 22 percent below the record high set back in September 2011.

My 2 cents on this:
1) The central banks around the world are forcing southern mediteranean states to sell their gold and want to buy it at lower prices.
2) The fed wants people to put money into equities and treasuries, thus crashing the price of pms and causing margin calls.
in the past investors with leverage were forced to sell gold to make margin calls; then it went back up later…DHS Insider guy said they would crash PMs before engineered $$ collapse, so watch out
Total B.S. by Barracuda again. This just happened with the silver prices a few years ago J.P. Morgan, B.O.A. and Chase were the main players then. This is tied to the Libor scandal. All the panics in the late 19th century were caused by extremely rich people playing such tricks. If one of these entities were to sell all their gold in one fell swoop, another such entity would be waiting to buy it back, plus all the newly devalued gold of the peasants.The two would be cousins. It is a simple gentleman’s agreement.
