Bitcoin ATMs: soon on streets of the cities

The American weekly TIME writes that two firms have plans to supply Bitcoin ATMs to American cities in the coming months. Robocoin, the Las Vegas-based firm has already started installing devices in Canada this fall. In all planned to ship 12 to 15 of the units by the end of the year. Robocoin CEO Jordan Kelley told TIME in an email: «We are working on deals right now in the U.S. that should deliver in December or January. Los Angeles, Florida, NYC, Austin, to name a few».

Another company, Lamassu, have planned shipping 15 bitcoin ATMs out over the next several weeks to 13 countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, China, Brazil, France, Denmark, Finland, Slovakia, and the U.S. Lamassu CEO Zach Harvey says: «The first US machines will be in Atlanta, GA. The ones shipping in November will be on the west coast. There is a lot of interest from entrepreneurs in California, but due to California’s extreme financial regulatory requirements, they may choose to set up in Washington or other states. Same goes for New York».

This week the world’s first Bitcoin ATM will open in Vancouver, Canada. The machine will exchange bitcoins for Canadian dollars via Canada’s VirtEx exchange. The machine will check client identity using palm prints, photographs, and ID verification, and will only allow for a maximum of CAD$3,000 (around $2,700) worth of transactions per user per day. This is done to enforce Canadian anti-money laundering laws.
