Drought Apocalypse Approaches As The Colorado River Basin Dries Up (LA Phoenix Tucson Las Vegas will suffer BIG)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Scientists just released the results of a first-of-its-kind study that finds the seven states of the drought-stricken Colorado River Basin are depleting groundwater reserves at a rapid rate. That threatens the future of a river that supplies water to 40 million people and irrigates 4 million acres of farmland.

Scientists at the University of California, Irvine, and NASA analyzed data from a satellite that measures underground water reserves to calculate that the Colorado River Basin has lost 65 cubic kilometers—that’s 17.3 trillion gallons—of water between December 2004 and November 2013. That represents twice the capacity of the United States’ largest reservoir, Lake Mead in Nevada. Most worrying, 75 percent of the loss came from groundwater supplies.

Its going to get really difficult here in all of CA by the end of summer and on into fall. Water levels well be lowest in late October. Lake Tahoe is even low for this time of year. One of the paddle wheel tour boats carrying 300 people ran aground in water that the day before was deep enough for it to get through. All 300 people had to be removed from the ship and brought shore. There are only 4 boat ramps open to the public on the lake, and two of them are high and dry. A third is about to be closed.

Is the reason for this water disappearance occuring realy a drought, or does
Yellowstone, which is heating up, plays a role here?

      Just asking!
