Has anyone noticed how the energy marketers are pushing to get people to switch to “smart” equipment? I’m sure some of you have, and some of you “investors” have invested money in firms offering this equipment too. Recently, flyers appeared in our snail mail offering “Rebates in California” to use “smarter, greener, better” equipment, such as thermostats, gas water heaters and ovens, for example. Rebates are available for purchases of “smarter, greener, better” equipment made on or after July, 15, 2014 through December 31, 2014, for OVER $400 for homes and UP TO $10,000 for businesses. All this is linked to the creation of the “smart grid”, wherein every detail of your consumption habits will be monitored. Water use, for example, will be monitored, and should you use more than your alloted amount per month, you will be charged extra or fined.
