Westchester County - Popular Suburbs Just Outside NYC

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Most people from New York City consider moving to Westchester once they have kids. The cramped apartment conditions become unbearable once you have one or two kids running around. And the exciting nightlife does not apply to most once kids are in the picture.

Since most people thinking of moving to Westchester County with their children on their mind, looking at real estate in Westchester County is not just location, location, location. It becomes school district, school district, school district.

If you look at any of the school rankings by magazines, Westchester County consistently has schools that are ranked among the best in the country.

According to www.realestatehudsonvalleyny.com, Westchester not only has some of the best schools in the country. It also has some of the most expensive real estate in the country.

In 2014, a total of seven school district with a real estate median sales price of over a million dollars! The most expensive area is Rye City, with a median sales price of $1,835,000. Bronxville is very close, at a sales price of $1,800,000.

The other million-dollar school districts include:

Scarsdale $1,497,000

Harrison $1,300,000

Edgemont $1,165,000

Byram Hills $1,056,001

Mamaroneck $1,030,000

All of the above towns have excellent schools. The exclusive neighborhoods like Scarsdale and Bronxville are at prime locations with frequest commuter trains that can bring you to Manhattan in under an hour. Towns like Mamaroneck has great water views. Those towns all have a charming downtown, quaint local shops, and a convenient train station on Main Street. With the exception of Byram Hills, the commute time to New York City from these towns is only a little over half an hour.

You will find that the towns further and more North of New York City are more affordable. Some of the towns have a median home price of below $500,000. The more North you move, the area becomes less congested, and there are plenty of parks, farms, and reservoirs, perfect for those who enjoy the outdoors. So if you are looking to move out of New York City, hopefully one of these towns will offer you the homes you are looking for.
