Anyone waking this morning will glance at US equity futures and happily note its unchanged-ness relative to weakness in Asia overnight. But behind the scenes of the last 12 hours was a total and utter farce of price discovery failure. S&P 500 e-mini futures have been halted twice (0551ET anbd 0612ET) in what one market observer exclaimed “looks like manipulation to me.” So what exactly happened at 6:12am?

Nothing new at all. we have no real markets only government manipulated schemes called markets these days. Been going on in a massive scale for almost a decade and yes BHO put it all on steroids. This is NOT news at all and there have been far worse events many times since 2007-08 !

Obama reinstated laws on the Banks and tried to reign in Wall Street after “W” cut them loose and the allowed the Housing bubble…which caused the crash in 2008.
The republicans went in and voted to again REMOVE those restraints……allowing even more power to the banks and Wall Street.

I don’t know if it is related but there are scenarios where human or software errors occur (and they do), trades need to be backed out of and the market can be halted. An example would be where a trader added a zero to the end of a buy or sell order for the number of items (shares, etc) to be traded. It would make sense to rule out this common scenario before suspecting something more nefarious. I could be wrong.
