Ad Feedback White House Lists Same-Sex Marriage as a Top Obama Achievement

The White House has published a series of brief reports outlining what the administration considers President Barack Obama’s record of achievements in various areas of public policy.

The report on Obama’s record on “Social Progress and Equality” begins by listing the Supreme Court’s declaration that same-sex marriage is a right and the administration’s swift enforcement of that decision as among Obama’s top achievements.

“President Obama has led the fight to protect everyone—no matter who you are, where you’re from, what you look like, or whom you love,” the report begins.

“From pushing through sweeping rights and protections for LGBT Americans to making our immigration system fairer and safer to tackling poverty and investing in communities here’s where the administrations’ record stands.”

It then lists:

“• Ended the government’s defense of the Defense of Marriage Act, leading to the Supreme Court’s landmark decisions holding the Act unconstitutional

“• Advocated in favor of a Constitutional guarantee of marriage equality for same-sex couples—a position the Supreme Court vindicated in its historic decision in Obergefell v. Hodges

“• Directed the Cabinet to review over 1,000 federal statutes and regulations to ensure the decision was implemented swiftly and smoothly by the federal government to recognize the rights of same-sex couples, following the Supreme Court decision in Windsor”
