Even Dollar Stores Have Been Negatively Impacted by the Rampant Shoplifting Epidemic - NYC Locations Being Closed Due to Theft (Video)

I this 7 April 2024 video, New York City resident Cash Jordan reports on the various chain discount stores in the city and how the continuous massive theft has caused the corporate owners to decide to close the locations.

Dollar Tree will now close 1000 stores nationwide, but nobody’s talking about how even if Dollar Tree were to keep the NYC stores open, they’ may be unrecognizable to their customers because the different dollar stores/discount stores are fighting a losing battle in the war against shoplifting.

The headline of a January 2024 story from the New York Post really says it all when discussing store crime: “A Whopping One-Third of Gen-Z Shoppers Admit They Prefer Self-Checkout Kiosks – so They Can Shoplift”.

According to an AP report, “Dollar Tree plans to close about 600 Family Dollar stores in the first half of this year and 370 Family Dollar and 30 Dollar Tree stores over the next several years.”

Additionally, another players in the discount marked issued a final statement on Thursday. The operators of the 99 Cents Only stores announced on 4 April 2024 that they will shut down all 371 of the store locations throughout four states, with liquidation sales starting on Friday, 5 April. 

“This was an extremely difficult decision and is not the outcome we expected or hoped to achieve,” interim company CEO Mike Simoncic said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the last several years have presented significant and lasting challenges in the retail environment, including the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, shifting consumer demand, rising levels of shrink, persistent inflationary pressures and other macroeconomic headwinds, all of which have greatly hindered the company’s ability to operate.
