How ROTC Helped Spencer Jensen

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Thousand Oaks, California — When he was in college, Spencer Jensen participated in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program at San Diego State University. This program trains college students to prepare to join the armed forces. It involves thousands of college students each year, who then go on to serve in the army, navy, and other branches of the armed forces after they graduate from college. ROTC students take on the responsibility of participating in the program in addition to their college work and any extracurricular opportunities they engage in.

For Spencer Jensen, ROTC was only one part of a busy college lifestyle that included internships, sports, an active social life, and volunteering with a number of campus organizations in the San Diego community and on campus. ROTC contributed to Spencer Jensen’s busy schedule. Every day during the week, he would wake up at 5:00 to work out with his fellow ROTC members, even during busy times like exams and midterms. The ROTC program also includes military training courses in military training, officer training, and other skills that will allow them to succeed in the military. Some students receive scholarships through ROTC as well.

For Spencer Jensen, ROTC helped to maintain a steady schedule and academic success. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Marketing and Communications in 2009. Along with his great academic record, he was active in a number of other campus activities. When he graduated, his grades put him in a good position to find a job, but ROTC was initially a great help. When employers looked over his resume, they could see that he had dedication, perseverance, and willingness to work hard, because of his success in ROTC. Many of Spencer Jensen’s fellow students who also participated in ROTC had the same experience. Spencer Jensen tells us that his time in ROTC gave him many skills that come in handy in the professional world.

Spencer Jensen is happy to discuss his ROTC experience with any students who might consider joining the program. Since he befitted so much, he wants to give back to the program so that it can continue to grow and help college students succeed.
