The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Sides of Online Learning

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Education is now imparted through wires and even in the wireless way, far from the concrete boundaries of the brick-and-mortar schools. There are scores of aspiring learners who choose these online alternatives when they want to advance their careers. Simultaneously, online colleges have also mushroomed in recent times. Degree options have multiplied and unaccredited diploma mills have also burgeoned simultaneously. Debates, discussions and discourses on online learning are many and anybody who is taking interest in e-learning may get bewildered first as choices are many and there is no dearth of advisors.

Whether or not you should choose online degree programs should be an independent decision and not to be manipulated someone else’s ideas and suggestions. It is, therefore, highly important to understand the good, the bad and the ugly sides of e-learning.

The good

Online education is good for several reasons. Firstly, it is the proven most convenient way of pursuing higher education. These days, even K-12 students are taught through blended learning methods. The cost of online degrees is also fairly lower than the traditional schools. The flexibility of online learning is a prime reason behind the recent and steadily increasing popularity of these degree programs. A whole new egalitarian educational trend is on a rise. The courses are self-paced in nature and are highly effective as well. Moreover, online courses are highly job-oriented.

The bad

However, people who are not tech-savvy do not feel easy learning online. Dropout rates are high among early baby boomer gen individuals who are not well-acquainted with new age technologies in most cases. On the other hand, people who prefer collaborative learning and they can learn well by interacting with their mentors face-to-face. There are some jobs which needs extensive hands-on training which may not be available through online way of learning.

The ugly

As previously stated, many unaccredited colleges have spiraled up of late. Many degree course seekers fall prey to the illusive offers and false commitments of these colleges and in the end, when they finally discover that there money has been wasted, they are in deep soup.

The bottomline, choose a degree program wisely. Assess your learning style, get digitally educated and choose an accredited college. Options are abundant.
