Vaughn College

Offering an Associate’s in Airport Management, Vaughn College’s two-year program offers students the opportunity to study air traffic control and airport management. According to their degree description, students will have the opportunity to “combine liberal arts, math and science with general management.” As part of their Aviation program, students are allowed the opportunity to take courses with flight simulations. Through any Federal Aviation Administration-accredited flight school, students can gain flight training and work towards a Commercial Pilot, Private Pilot or Instrument Rating certificate.

Florida Tech

While solely provided online, Florida Tech offers a background in both business and aviation for students. Their program has more of a focus on the administrative and operations aspect of the aviation industry. Therefore, they do not provide flight training or flight simulation.  Their core curriculum includes courses such as National Airspace Systems, Aviation Planning and Safety, and Air Transportation Management and Human Factors. Students are also expected to gain knowledge with liberal arts, mathematics and social science courses related to the program, such as Biology, Humanities, and Statistics. Florida Tech’s program is accredited by the FAA.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Embry’s Associate’s program is provided at their Worldwide campus in Andrews, MD or online. Their program in Aviation Business Administration offers a core curriculum of courses including Economics, Aeronautical Science Management, Business Statistics, Business Marketing & Management, Human Resources and Finance. Only needing sixty credits, students can finish their program in a relatively short amount of time. Similarly to Florida Tech, Embry’s program focuses more on the administrative and operations side of the Aviation industry, providing courses related to Business Management and Marketing. However, students will also be provided a more well-rounded education with the liberal arts and mathematics courses that they are required to take.

Having an associate’s degree in an excellent start to beginning a career in Aviation and/or Airport Management.  This will provide students with the basis of knowledge and experience in the Aviation industry. Students, if they find schools similar to Vaughn, can even get training and certifications for flight and piloting. Doing so will assist students in finding better opportunities to start their career while learning more about the business aspects of the industry. Therefore, getting an associates’ degree will be more than beneficial for those looking to start their Airport Management career.
