 #7. John has a plan to reduce government and supports a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution

When asked, “What is the greatest threat to our national security?” Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, didn’t say Iran, Iraq, Al-Qaeda or China; he said it was our unsustainable national debt. Sadly, Senator Lincoln and President Obama don’t seem to share this concern, and they’re putting our country at risk.

In 2009 and 2010, the federal government yielded a $1.4 and a $1.29 trillion federal budget deficit. The President’s Congressional Budget Office indicated last week that record-setting deficits will continue into next year, with an estimated $1.4 trillion projected for 2011.

President Obama’s “Big Government” agenda threatens to bankrupt our nation, leaving us with limited resources to defend ourselves, fulfill our promises to our veterans, protect the solvency of Social Security and Medicare, and to meet our other important obligations including investments in infrastructure, education and agriculture. With each dollar borrowed, we “kick the can down the road,” and burden our children with more debt. At some point, something has to give.

John Boozman understands this reality.

As Congressman, he’s returned more than $1,000,000 from his allocated office budget back to taxpayers. He understands that taxpayer dollars belong to taxpayers, not the government. John supports a number of proposals that would impose structural reforms on Congress and produce fiscal discipline. He supports a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution, line-item veto authority for the President, more robust Congressional transparency requirements, and earmark reform efforts.

Moreover, he supports a full audit of the Federal Reserve; an overhaul of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac; the sale of excess federal property, which cost taxpayer dollars over $25 billion per year; and a full repeal of recent new government programs and mandates, including ObamaCare, unspent stimulus funds, and a full rollback of the EPA. He’s fought to cut funding in nearly every government agency because he understands the federal government is inherently wasteful, ineffective, and predisposed to needless growth. Furthermore, he has pushed to rid government of the dozens of duplicative programs and agencies.

As Senator, John will continue the fight for fiscal sanity in Washington so that our children can inherit a stronger, greater America than the one our parents’ handed us.
