“Obama-Pelosi-Reid Leave Taxpayers Hanging to Hit the Trail”

Little Rock—U.S. Senate candidate John Boozman today
criticized Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker Pelosi for being too fixated
on campaigning to provide tax relief to Arkansans.

“The Obama-Pelosi-Reid leadership are willing to let the largest tax increase
in history loom to hit the campaign trail,” Boozman said. “This delay is
irresponsible and reckless.  It’s no
wonder Arkansans are fed up with the lack of leadership and action in
Washington.  Every family in America
faces a major tax increase in 90 days because they failed to take action to
prevent it.”

Failure to extend the ’01 tax cuts means that every American will pay higher
taxes once the law sunsets at the end of the year.  A growing bipartisan consensus stands united
against the Obama-Pelosi-Reid refusal to prevent across the board tax increases
amidst continued economic hardships. 
Their delay fosters greater economic uncertainty and stifles job
creation.

“President Obama and his allies in Congress have busted our budget and now they
want to raise taxes to pay for their reckless spending.  I am committed to reducing taxes, balancing
the budget and restoring fiscal responsibility to the U.S. Senate,” Boozman
said.

Here’s what failing to renew the ’01 tax cuts all means for Arkansans:

•           Every
taxpayer in Arkansas will be moved to a higher tax bracket
•           281,000 taxpayers in Arkansas
will lose the Marriage Penalty Relief
•           254,000 taxpayers in Arkansas
will lose the higher Child Tax Credit
•           161,000 taxpayers in Arkansas
will lose the reduced capital gains and dividend taxes

Our job creators, especially Arkansas’s small business, will be hit with higher
taxes.  This is another job killer at a
time when our economy remains in a slump and our national unemployment rate is
9.6%.  750,000 small businesses in
America will pay higher taxes because Congress failed to stop the largest tax
increase in history.

“Allowing the tax cuts to expire is another job killer from this administration.  Their big government agenda of too much
spending, too many taxes, too much debt, and too many regulations is
bankrupting our country.  It is
absolutely the wrong direction for our country,” Boozman said.
