I Pledge to End the Earmark Process

(ST. LOUIS, MO.) Oct. 30, 2010 – The earmark process is so convoluted. Congress members tack on pet projects to bills just to get them passed and money funneled. Ed Martin wants to put an end to this secret backroom deal process and create total transparency. It’s a project with which he’s already proven to be a leader. While working in the Governor’s office Ed Martin implemented a program which continues to be replicated in states across the U.S. The Missouri Accountability Portal, an internet search engine, tracks state government spending, creates transparency and eliminates government waste and abuse.

Ed Martin’s pledge today is: “I pledge to end the earmark process and create true transparency.” – Ed Martin

Congressman Carnahan voted for a $1.1 Trillion earmark spending bill. It’s something even his sister Robin Carnahan criticizes. As reporter Jake Wagman stated in the St. Louis Post Dispatch Sunday October 3, 2010, “Her candidacy has, at times, proved awkward for Russ.She has railed against the $700 billion bank bailout approved by Congress last year — a package Carnahan supported. Robin Carnahan has also called for an end to secretive “earmark” funding requests; Russ Carnahan made nearly $9 million worth of them in fiscal year 2010.”

When Wagman apparently asked Russ about this his answer was defiant. “She can speak for herself,” Russ said.

Who speaks for the people? Certainly not Russ. Ed Martin wants to represent the people not lobbyists like Russ.
