Manchin Stands with Obama-Reid In Washington, While Offering More Rhetoric On Spending in West Virginia

In a move leaked ahead of time to reporters in Washington this morning, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) will reportedly give a speech in West Virginia later today in which he will endorse the “CAP Act,” sponsored by Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) and Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), as well as voice his support for a balanced budget amendment. In response to this latest round of political maneuvering from Senator Manchin, who faces re-election next year, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) made the following statement:

“Senator Manchin has already had several opportunities to show he is serious about reining-in spending and controlling the size and scope of government, and instead, he rubber-stamped the President’s $787 billion stimulus boondoggle and voted in support of ObamaCare.

“What’s more, Senator Manchin knows full well that the proposals he is endorsing today have zero chance of becoming law because they are being blocked by the same liberal Senate Democrat leaders that he voted to put in power.

“This is another clear difference between the rhetoric Senator Manchin offers to voters in West Virginia, versus the reality of his voting record in Washington.”
