New Donnelly Ad: Too Liberal With the Truth

Indianapolis (June 14, 2012) — Joe Donnelly’s campaign for U.S. Senate has chosen to make its first television ad of the 2012 election a blatant lie.  In concert with the state and national Democratic parties, Donnelly has taken to the airwaves to make the false claim that Richard Mourdock is against Social Security and Medicare. 

“While attempting to scare seniors by lying about an opponent’s position on Social Security and Medicare is right out of the liberal playbook, this ad takes the falsehood to new heights by misusing speech footage to distort Richard Mourdock’s record,” said Mourdock spokesman Chris Conner.  “Richard Mourdock clearly points out in the same speech that he is not against these programs.”

By making these false claims against Richard Mourdock, Joe Donnelly is attempting to distract voters from his liberal record.

“The truth is, Congressman Donnelly is the one who voted to cut $500 billion from Medicare when he voted for Obamacare.  Donnelly is also placing Social Security at risk by refusing to reform it in order to save it from insolvency,” stated Conner.

The hypocrisy doesn’t end there.  The Donnelly ad also claims that Mourdock supports tax cuts for Wall Street just because he has signed a “no-tax-increase” pledge, when Donnelly voted to bail out Wall Street when he voted for billions in TARP bailout funds for the biggest banks on Wall Street.

“Voters are now on notice.  Joe Donnelly won’t let the truth get in the way of his attempt to win an election,” said Conner.
