Donnelly Buys $500,000 second home
while making late tax payments on primary residency

Indianapolis (October 15, 2012) — The Mourdock campaign called out Joe Donnelly today for lying about the state treasurer in Donnelly’s latest TV ad in an effort to hide his own record of failing to pay property taxes on time. Donnelly purchased a $500,000 lake house, yet failed to pay taxes on his primary residence in a timely manner.

“Joe Donnelly has raced to the bottom of the barrel of negative campaigning by lying about Richard Mourdock and his Indianapolis condo. It was Mourdock who pointed out the homestead exemption error to Marion County officials – who admitted fault for the error in June,” stated Mourdock spokesman Christopher Conner.

“It’s Donnelly who failed to make timely tax payments 18 times on his home in Granger, IN, and his half- million dollar lake house in Michigan City, IN.” Conner continued.

“The real kicker is Joe Donnelly found enough money to buy the lake house in 2001, yet had problems making tax payments on his primary home in Granger, IN, in 1999, 2000 and 2001. The real question is this: What’s Donnelly excuse for habitually failing to pay his property taxes on time?”

The Donnellys Also Had Several Delinquent Tax Payments On Their Home In St. Joseph County Starting In 1999. “St. Joseph County tax records indicate a similar record of late payments and delinquencies beginning in 1999.” (James Wensits, “GOP Cites Donnelly Tax Payments,” South Bend Tribune, 7/25/06)

The Donnellys Purchased A Lake House In LaPorte County In 2001 For $500,000 And Paid A Couple Of Delinquent Tax Penalties Prior To 2004. “The LaPorte records show that Donnelly and his wife, Jill, paid $500,000 for the Lakeshore Drive home in early 2001 and paid a couple of delinquent penalties prior to bringing everything up to date in early 2004.” (James Wensits, “GOP Cites Donnelly Tax Payments,” South Bend Tribune, 7/25/06)

Donnelly Fell Behind On His 2005 Property Tax Bill For His St Joseph County Home. “Treasurer Sean Coleman’s records show that Donnelly was current on tax payments for his Granger home at the end of 2003, and avoided penalties by making payments on time in 2004. Coleman’s records show that Donnelly fell behind and had to pay a penalty of $119.95 in 2005, but caught up later in the year, was paid in full by that year’s Nov. 10 deadline and is still current.” (James Wensits, “GOP Cites Donnelly Tax Payments,” South Bend Tribune, 7/25/06)
