Want a good laugh? "Mike supports Obamacare!"

I’ve heard from many of you throughout the district over the past few days saying that you’ve received “robocalls” suggesting that Mike supports Obamacare.  Now, I know for most of you, the silliness of the claim made you laugh.  Me too. 

Still, I think it’s important that you all know the facts about the claim that is being made in these phone calls.

The calls say they are being paid for by Kansans for Responsible Government.

• Kansans for Responsible Government’s money is being used to support Mr. Tiahrt.  Click here to see the proof.

These calls are known as “push polls.”  They first ask for whom you will vote.  In this case, if you say Mike Pompeo, they “push” the recipient of the call by asserting a fact that is not fully accurate and is intended to mislead.

• “Push polls” are considered unethical by the professionals in the industry.
   
• Our team has never and will never do “push polls.”

The false claim in these recent calls is that “Mike Pompeo voted to fund Obamacare seven times.”

The truth is:

• Mike Pompeo has voted against Obamacare over 50 times.
   
• Mr. Tiahrt has made a similar claim in public. Watch the video here.
   
• The Tiahrt campaign is apparently referring to enormous pieces of legislation that provided a very small amount of funding for the Department of Health and Human Services – the agency responsible for implementing parts of Obamacare.  So technically, one could strain one’s mind to say that every member of the Republican Party supports Obamacare – that would shock Barack Obama!  Another way to think about it:  under this theory, it could be said that Mr. Tiahrt has voted for abortion.  Here are the eight bills where he supported abortion by voting to fund Planned Parenthood.  We would never make that accusation, and we wish that the Tiahrt campaign would live up to that same ethical standard and not play these old-school Washington, D.C., games that  Kansans have all come to despise.
   
• Mike Pompeo has been endorsed by groups that would NEVER support any candidate that supported Obamacare, including Kansans for Life and FreedomWorks.  Both groups endorsed Pompeo over Tiahrt.  Kansans for Life and FreedomWorks have also fought against Obamacare’s religious freedom-denying provisions and have advocated for the total elimination of Obamacare.

It is true that Mr. Tiahrt and Mike disagree on Obamacare.  Mr. Tiahrt recently stated that “parts of Obamacare should remain.”  Read his statement here. Mike disagrees and believes that Obamacare needs to be completely eliminated.  He believes we need to start fresh from a base of principles that were ignored in this legislation.

So, there you have it.  Mr. Hartman is supporting Mr. Tiahrt, who is advancing claims that are intended to mislead voters.  We pledge to never do that in our campaign and to always tell the full truth.

Truth is, Obamacare is not funny.  It’s hurting Kansas families.  With your support, Mike will continue to fight to restore America’s healthcare freedom.
