Congressman Thornberry Votes in Favor of Critical COVID-19 Relief Funds
WASHINGTON- Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 266, the “Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act.”

“After this bill was unnecessarily delayed by politics in Washington, more small businesses and the people who depend on them can be helped through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Local banks have worked hard to get loans approved, and the vast majority of loans have gone to small businesses through smaller banks. The Administration plans on tightening the regulations so that entities like Harvard will not be eligible in the future. But, it is crucial that we continue to fund these important programs that help Americans and the country as a whole.”

This bill provides:

Health Care Providers and Testing

  • A $75 billion increase to the Public Health and Social Services Emergency Fund for hospitals and health care providers in order to build temporary hospitals and support essential health care workers
  • An additional $25 billion, including $11 billion to the states, to continue to research, develop, and manufacture COVID-19 tests in an increased capacity

Small Businesses

  • An additional $321 billion to replenish the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), allowing lenders to continue to provide urgent cash flow to businesses in need
  • An additional $10 billion to the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program
    • Agricultural enterprises with fewer than 500 employees will now able to apply
  • An additional $50 billion for the Disaster Loan Program Account, providing continued economic relief to businesses during the crisis
