Chevron to acquire Atlas Energy Inc
Chevron is further enhancing its global shale position by acquiring a company that has a premier acreage position in the Marcellus and Utica shale plays. This deal gives Chevron a significant presence in one of the fastest growing plays in US Shale, and the assets being acquired will complement Chevron’s existing shale gas opportunities in Poland, Romania and Canada.

Shell is divesting a 10% stake (78.43m shares) in Woodside for A$42.23 per share to equity investors. UBS AG is arranging the transaction and acting as underwriter. Upon completion of the sale, Shell will continue to own a 24.27% interest in Woodside. In other news Chesapeake Energy acquires 500,000 acres in the Appalachian basin from Anschultz Exploration and The CEO of EXCO Resources Inc, Douglas H. Miller offers to acquire the remaining stock of the company which he doesn’t currently own for $20.50 per share.

Finally Williams Companies are selling their Piceance basin gathering and processing assets to their more tax efficient general partner Williams Partners LP for US$782 million. Williams Companies will continue to use the assets for their Piceance basin production via a long-term gathering agreement with Williams Partners.
