An incredible US based company called V3Solar has come up with an incredible new idea in solar energy. First they made their solar cell in a cone shaped configuration that spins which eliminates the need for complicated tracking systems to tilt cell to track the sun. This design allows the units to always get a good angle for the cells to achieve top efficiency.
The real innovation comes from concentrating the sunlight through their special covers that sit on top of solar cell. Traditionally concentrating the light using lenses has resulted in damaging the solar cells because they get too hot. But V3Solar’s solution of spinning the cell keeps them cool because they are only exposed to high heat for a very short time!
The concept is similar to how if you put your hand under a magnifying glass it will burn your hand quickly but if you move your hand back and forth quickly under the magnifying glass and go in and out of the beam your hand will remain unharmed. These concepts are showing great success at generating 20 times more electricity per cell than flat panel cells!
Each unit is 1 meter high and 1 meter wide and produces 1kWp of electricity. If space is limited they even have a really well designed power pole that can hold 10 units for 10Kwp of power.
V3Solar’s has recently signed it’s first licensing deal of 800,000 Spin Cells for what may be the largest solar farm in the southern hemisphere so this company is moving quickly to capitalize on their new technology!
