Australians Promote Revolution

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

To peacefully remove power from the eltie’s Big Energy, an Australian revolution is being promoted this week by a progressive group.

Australians taking control

“What if every roof in Australia utilised the power of the sun?” Get Up asks. “We’d glitter from space.”

“Imagine that. We’d reduce emissions, create a new economy, put the brakes on coal, fracking and coal-seam gas expansion — and we’d all save money.”

New research has found approximately 134 percent of Australia’s residential electricity needs could be met if every suitable rooftop was converted to solar power. (Brass, Nick. If every house had solar… Climate Spectator. April 11, 2013.)

Australia is fortunate to have an incredible abundance of natural resources.

“We’re the sunniest country in the world, but even countries like Scotland and Germany are outdoing us when it comes to realising our renewable energy potential,” Get Up says. “This is why Australians are taking control, and doing what government and big industry won’t.”.

“Already one million Australian households have joined the rooftop revolution using their very own homes, and GetUp members have said they want the opportunity to make the shift to renewable energy.”

Sungevity is a registered B-Corp under U.S law as they are mission driven, working to address climate change, not just chase profits. Danny Kennedy the founder of Sungevity is a long time climate activist, having achieved some big wins in the 90s in the U.S. with Greenpeace. Danny was also head of campaigns at Greenpeace Australia from 2003-2006. Danny spearheaded the 2010 “Solar on the White House” campaign, which resulted in a decision by the Obama administration to place solar panels on the First Family residence. Danny also serves on the board of The Solar Foundation, a global research and education organization in Washington, DC, and Solar Mosaic, a solar-focused, crowd-funding start-up.

In the U.S. many of the big environment groups such as the Sierra Club and The Wilderness Society have now been working with Sungevity for many years. We’ve been in touch with those groups, who have all had very successful experiences. GetUp would not engage with or push out any person – let alone venture – without doing incredibly stringent due diligence, and making sure it’s the right place for us to be directing members in order to be able to be involved with issues that they care about in a way that benefits them, and benefits the issues they care about. Here’s one of the most effective ways to take power back from the corporate government and put that power back into the hands of the common man and woman. Why not?

      • wizard

I personally use a piece of plastic. Stops the meter spining .Cost less than 1 cent. Has worked well for over 30 years.

        • @sshole

youre a liar and an idiot

    • politically incorrect

I am an Australian home owner and I for one would not …Why>>>because a system to run my house was going to cost $20,000 far too dear for electricity which is taken by private utility companies and rebated at pitiful amounts .The home owner has to pay increased insurance ..If one was to be damaged by hail no power at all, till fixed.not to mention the need for a smart meter due to the integrated system.Oh and by the way our govt just announced that the supplements they are giving these companies to ensure a regulated rebate are going to be terminated so thousands of existing contracts with homeowners will be breached . The system is corrupt and those silly enough to have them installed won’t even get what was promised in their contract.

Question: “What if every roof in Australia utilised the power of the sun?”
Simple. Then they’ll tax you for the sunshine, because it doesn’t belong to you & it belong to the corporation which have a patent on the sunshine!
So sunshine, you’ll get screwed anyway!

      • @sshole

actually, contrary to what politically incorrect says above,, it doesnt cost that much these days to go solar, and from close to a 3000 dollars bill for power every year to aero.. with the power company paying me for extra i produce.. its the reverse of tax..

and also.. PI said above if the panels get damaged he is without power? obviously doesnt know what hes talking about.. because on days or nights when there is no sun.. the power is drawn back from the grid.

fact is.. so many houses have solar already.. the power companies are having issues with so much going back IN to the grid..

        • politically incorrect

I have a very large house 6 bed 3 bath 2 kitchens 2 living spaces and a 10 m pool to house 7 people that’s why so much and as far as no power if damaged just check out Brisbane floods during previous years people couldn’t return to their homes due to short circuit issues . The issue is with electrocution possibilities especially if main power is still feeding in. Also I grew up on a farm with solar only power we had to be self sufficient and even then 20 yrs ago the cost for 2 panels was 10,000.Of course the price has dropped but it’s still not worth the cost unless you can separate from grid power entirely, PS. before you go on about entitlement we are low income family who has decided to live sharing with my in-laws and we only consume the equivalent power of 5 people. It is sad that you think only men would have this opinion.

        • @sshole

theres a very big difference concerning power availability due to a hailstone hitting a solar panel compared to the brisbane floods idiot.

ok… so i called you “he” deal with it.. youre still stupid.

“Of course the price has dropped but it’s still not worth the cost unless you can separate from grid power entirely, ”

utter moronic nonsense.. like i said.. panels paid off.. with the money that would have otherwise been spent paying for electricity.. and now free electricity plus payments from the power company for extra produced..

not worth it? youre a moron!

ps .. your dribble below about contracts becoming void is BS

        • Authentica

Here are some FACTUAL information links for people. Anony-mouse is plain LYING to claim a $3,000 annual power bill has been wiped out AND he’s getting a profit now from putting energy back into the grid.. That is unrealistic unless you have a mansion sized roof & spent a fortune, even then I doubt it…

stupid cow,, my last quarter bill was 700 dollars.. 4 quarters – 2800

i have all the panels on a separate shed.. its ~5kw system.. where i live we get more sunshine than the gold coast..

i get paid 29 cents for every kw i put back into the system-

lol – try again dipstick.. stick to taking photos of fairies idiot

im rude and obnoxious, but im not a liar.. i just choose to annoy idiots.. unfortunately – you being an idiot isnt a choice

    • robobbob

oh no here we go again. Look. solar power sounds nice. it definitely has certain applications, especially power to places wayyyy off grid, or places with power requirements too small to justify bringing in the grid, or if the usage is astronomically big then solar can take some of the edge off.
BUT, the bottom line is that all around the world, solar power as a whole only exists as long as somebody somewhere is subsidizing it. The price to install and MAINTAIN creates a long cost recovery time. usually far to long to help the average homeowner.
Now, would it be worth it to have a government make a serious effort to promote solar in a meaningful way? Sure. Why not? It would certainly be better then throwing money down some useless hole or lining their cronies pockets like most government programs. But that will never happen. If you have the cash, want to go off grid, stick it to the system, save the planet, go for it. but it is no one size fit all panacea. mostly its an expensive bragging point for wanna-bes trying to show off.

      • @sshole

” The price to install and MAINTAIN creates a long cost recovery time. usually far to long to help the average homeowner.”

utter nonsense. our system has paid for itself already.. now getting free power.

        • politically incorrect

Not for long once the new budget cuts in … your contract will no longer be applicable…good luck

    • Authentica

Well I’ve read the for & against solar arguments… I sold the stuff for over 4 years in Australia. Both sides make important arguments. It’s true that you can get the panels much cheaper now.. Cheapest end of the range would be about $3,000 not including installation costs & $20,000+ if you get a decent brand that will give you full power for the whole house… That’s out of most people’s reach already.. On top of that, the commenter is right that the pay-back you get from the power companies for any unused power they absorb, is pittiful & it would have been much worse if not for vocal protests. In our last home we spent thousands on a solar hot water system that had an auto booster so we’d never come home to cold showers… Even when the booster was never engaged, the power companies forced us to pay a fixed fee each power bill just because they said so. Financially, even with rebates, it would have taken us YEARS just to recoup our costs for the hot water system, let alone whole-house solar in a cyclone prone region.

So it really depends on how wealthy you are, what your particular situation is regarding your average power consumption, how long you’ll be in that particular home to reap the benefits & the current power company rates & credit systems in place…

      • Authentica

Also I might add that in my experience, not every home & roof is even suitable for solar. Many, many customers I conversed with could not get solar hot water, let alone full solar power due to the health, shape, angles, or room on their roof – or due to insufficient sunshine from neighbour’s trees or buildings. If you don’t have the panels installed on the optimal side of the roof & if they are not at the correct angle, you will get greatly reduced power generation… (Not all companies will tell you this, or that the panels themselves vary greatly in the quality of materials & subsequently their effectiveness). Many factors involved. Never buy solar through a telemarketer – you will get ripped off. It even makes a difference to your profitability from the panels what time of the day you are usually at home, due to different peak rates. So it is not neccessarily simple or best or cheapest for everyone.. However if you have the funds & a suitable sunny roof, investigate the figures as you may well find it saves you plenty going into the future.

        • @sshole

youve displayed time and again you dont have a clue about anything serious renee..

except for how lens flare in pictures are really fairies..

        • Authentica

LOL I’m not hiding who I am & I honestly don’t give a ‘flying fairy’ what you think about me… But if you’re so clever & superior, why don’t you reveal your identity & your expert knowledge to everyone? Or are you content to just anonymously (cowardly) leave me ridiculous smart-ass hot-air derogatory comments? That’s your personal style is it? & what have I displayed in these 2 comments that shows I ‘dont have a clue about anything ‘serious”? Hmm?

        • Authentica

Wow 5 snide, derogatory & pro-solar Propaganda comments on one story… Let me see… Is your name Leon or Craig (or one of their ass-kissers)? That’s why you got a bit testy with my truthful comments because you OWN a (rip-off) solar company. Gotcha. You’re still not that smart as big as that chip on your should is…

fact is – im simply happy with having gone solar.. anything you have to say can not be taken seriously because you believe in fairies ffs..

what pseudonym would you prefer i use? the lamest argument on here is saying someones opinion is worthless simply because of the username..

fact is idiot.. youre an idiot.. whatever i call m,myself wont change that.

i bought through a telemarketer.. saving thousands per year.. couldnt be happier.. sux 2 B U

go take some more pictures of faries at the bottom of your garden fool… or tune in to some more alex jones..

        • Authentica

LOL I never said solar companies are paying trolls, not once. The way you keep throwing out derogatory BS shows I was pretty close to the mark LOL. Why would anyone buy solar through a telemarketer? It means you’re gonna pay more than going through a normal company or a supplier, duh! ‘Believing’ in fairies is nothing I’m ashamed of or embarrassed about in the slightest! I don’t & have never tuned into alex jones & do you feel smarter that you’ve called me an idiot about a dozen times? LOL you still are a coward as you won’t reveal your identity & you haven’t provided us your ‘expertise’ yet??

        • Authentica

What do you believe in anony-mouse? Haven’t you read up on the latest physics about inter-dimensional life is a high probability? If you think I’m a moron for believing there are other life forms in other realms inter-penetrating ours, well I’m in good company.

You have no soul so of course you think it’s silly. You worship greed & power with no ethics towards trusting people, but you’re just an elite-wannabe.. Your nastiness is palpable & off-putting. Business not going so well? People not so easily swindled out of their money sheerly by your lies for your quater-yearly overseas holidays & designer suits? All I keep hearing from you is ‘fairies moron stupid stupid moron fairies” it’s a bit repetitious & meaningless… & FYI it’s fantastic being me. I don’t spend all my time trying to get rich off the backs of others & ripping off customers & staff. Therefore, I have happiness which is invaluable.

        • @sshole

why should i reveal my identity? that would be stupid ..
you said i own a solar company.. rtight you want to split hairs and say you never said i was being paid by a solar company.. fine..

why would i buy from a telemarketer.. simply because the they rang a day before i was going overseas and my hot water system died, they were able to arrange a loan and everything via email while i was away..

you list AJ on your facebook page.. i guess thats alan jones then .. wow.. still stupid..

what do i believe in? why? whats that got to do with your bs?

my expertise? i simply recounting personal opinion smegmabreath

you pretend to know all about me.. truth is you know nothing.. but

you say business aint going so well? what business? what an idiot.. you cant even argue a point without resorting to make believe and fantasy..

i never said people havnt been ripped off.. i never said solar manufacture wasnt green.. i never advocated for anything here stupid.. all i said was.. from my experience.. a couple of these people here have posted inaccurate statements..

and you.. well you post your inane idiocy all over this place.. thats why i called you an idiot, idiot.. because youre an idiot

          idiot

        • @sshole

” & FYI it’s fantastic being me. I don’t spend all my time trying to get rich off the backs of others & ripping off customers & staff. Therefore, I have happiness which is invaluable.”

you hypocrite.. was alright for you to earn a living for 4 years doing that… or were you lying..

im perfectly happy being me thanks.. i have intellectual integrity and a functioning cognisant ability..

youre only happy because ignorance is bliss

        • @sshole

” You worship greed & power with no ethics towards trusting people, but you’re just an elite-wannabe.. Your nastiness is palpable & off-putting”

see.. thats the sort of idiocy im talking about..

you can not possibly know what my ethics are, nor can you know what i may or may not worship.

so making things up like that, to try and make a point.. is being an idiot.

nastiness is palpable? good.. i want it to be idiot.. off putting? lol – tell someone who cares tramp! – DILLIGAF!

    • DEADTiME

Hmm Obama and solar panels…..seems to me I’ve heard about this before…..

    • wizard

      peace love & happiness
      all else is illusion

    • Deborah Dupre

Seems no commenter below takes into consideration the cost of human life. People are being killed daily so the West can have their energy sources. Yes, initial solar costs are high, but not the 20K installation fee claimed by someone below. I know one American house, average size, paid 25K total and has hardly paid for electricity since then. They also power their electric vehicle with their system.

Also not mentioned is the waste of electricity: Most western households waste energy – more so in the US than in Australia.

Another major unmentioned factor in comments is that fossil fuels has been and will increasingly become more expansive – to the point most folks simply will not be able to afford it anyway!

      • Authentica

I never said the installation fee is 20k. I said the total cost is around that or more – or for a cheap system of 3k, that price will not include installation costs. Since I actually worked in the industry for a number of years, I can also tell you that 20k+ is too much debt for little return for struggling middle & poor class families (families with children often do not have enough roof space to accomodate all their power needs with the current technology, anyway).

These families are not responsible for the energy giants suppressing free energy technology, killing people & fixing prices – so why should they bear the extra financial burden? It’s not fair to lay that on them. We just got a carbon tax slogged onto everything too, don’t forget.. So you’d think if the government was serious, they would be subsidising & offering better buy-back rates (which can change at any time..)

Bottom line is Solar would not be allowed to be pushed if it was really a solution for the world’s energy needs  I’m making these comments as someone who spoke to literally thousands of Australians about solar power.

      • politically incorrect

Ever considered that the production and disposal of these panels is environmentally worse than the fossil fuels they replace …All the mining destruction including petroleum for plastic components to obtain the key ingredients, the pollution caused in the manufacture, the dumps littered with yet more waste …no where near environmentally sound…just a black hole for the govt….sorry tax payers money…We are already screwed… not much to do but cut consumption.

    • UM...

With all the crap the governments spend our money on, they need to spend our money on this project. Why not?
It needs to happen, not even considering money, which is as valuable as a second coat of paint, we need a different energy source for our planets survival.
This is bigger than that paper in your pocket…

      • Authentica

Yes we need the government to support solar users – they should use the carbon tax revenue to start developing community commercial level solar-panels, or more effective panels.

We critically need the release, investment & development of free energy technologies that are already available. That is the answer, but the energy mafia doesn’t let anything develop they can’t profit from.. An Australian man deveolped a perpetual motion box that would power a home freely & cheaply. It was on our national news several years ago, with a statement that it would be on the market in a couple of years… I never heard of it again & that’s just 1 of many examples I know of in this country alone.

‘This is bigger than that paper in your pocket’ fine to say if you’re someone who has paper in your pocket. Many don’t & many have family & basic living cost struggles at this time. They live week to week, inflation & taxes have increased, & you expect people to go into more debt when they probably have a mortgage & several other payment plans already? More debt is not the answer. If you’ve got spare cash, go ahead & load your roof. If you believe in it, why don’t you pay for a poor family’s solar panels?

        • Authentica

A large percentage of customers who signed a contract to get solar panels through a finance loan were rejected anyhow, as it was outside their budget & means, however well-meaning they were..

& politically incorrect makes an excellent point above regarding the pollution & environmental destruction caused by manufacturing ‘green energy’ like solar panels… It’s the same with wind turbines.. They need to be heavily subsidised & worst of all they are endangering many beautiful bird species throughout the world. Each wind farm kills thousands upon thousands of migrating birds, including rare eagles & vultures, wherever they are set up, every year…

        • @sshole

“An Australian man deveolped a perpetual motion box that would power a home freely & cheaply. you stupid stupid idiot..

perpetual motion machine you say? lol.. on national news you say? double lol..

ohhhh wait… quickly renee ! i think i hear the fairies calling you!

        • @sshole

“Each wind farm kills thousands upon thousands of migrating birds, including rare eagles & vultures, wherever they are set up, every year…”

thats either willfull ignorance or a straight out lie.

every wind farm? kills thousands? BS.. while some may be placed in the path of migrating birds, there are windfarms that have almost none..

mind you.. i see plenty of poisoning of birds and other wildlife in oil spills.. – gas too destroys wildlife.. look on the side of the roads one day and see how much wildlife is destroyed by driving cars…

fact is.. if youre spending 500 a quarter on electricity bills.. im sure you could get a loan where the repayments are not any more than that, and therefore affordable..

fact is again, you have demonstrated quite clearly that youre an idiot.. and yes.,. of course.. some fly by night solar panel shonk is paying me to say this because he knows all his future customers are reading this page right now… you stupid cow

        • @sshole

” If you believe in it, why don’t you pay for a poor family’s solar panels?”

who said i “believe in it” ? all i said is i did it to save me money.. i was responding to ignorant comments about how its not worth it.. like i said.. i was paying almost 3000 a year, now they pay me.. – you do the math. ohhh sorry… i keep forgetting how stupid you are.

why the hell should i pay for some other moron.. you truly are a bit thick renee.. you should probably stop trying to look so knowledgeable about every subject on here.. it doesnt suit you.

          Beautiful Faery Lights Photos
          Hi,

Firstly, thanks for your online magazine, I just discovered it and its great Here is a sample of some of the beautiful beings I have photographed with my digital camera. Some of the images are in the backyards of houses, and others are at a beautiful placed called Stoney Creek. If you would like more information and/or more photos from me, please feel free to ask. But these are some of my personal favourites. The large ball of light coming out of the water was in response to my asking if the Deva of Stoney Creek would oblige me with a photograph; utterly amazing! I would love it if you share these images with other readers.

          With Love,

you go about the internet plastering your name everywhere… full name.. and post on websites using such pretentious names like “authentica” – only authetic thing about you is your f’wittery..

and you accuse me of having ego issues.. ego is all about self promotion.. i can hardly be accused of that if i dont flaunt who i am like some idiots..

years ago.. when the internet was in its infancy, when i first logged on.. it was considered prudent not to divulge too much personal information unnecessarily.. that same advice is as relevant today, if not more so.

by calling you by name, i was trying to highlight the fact for you, and others here, that this website makes it easy for people to find other posters information.. as a warning… but you simply say..

“i dont care if you know who i am .. im not trying to hide”

well i dont care if you care or not.. thats not why i did it..

mind you.. if i was a homicidal maniac.. perhaps youd start caring in a hurry.. with all the info youve posted online about yourself.. what are you? an idiot?

if you dont like the fact that im happy with my solar, or the fact that, judging by the amount of solar panels on roof of more and more houses every day.. these days, lots of people seem to be happy with their solar… i guess they all rushed in without doing the maths eh? well.. too bad princess.. but the fact is.. im not accountable to you or anyone else on here.. you can pretend im the owner of some small solar business if that makes you happy.. ( idiot ) .. but simply… you couldnt be more wrong.

ohh… those photos.. they are not fairies idiot.

LOL no you don’t have any facts. The links proved you didn’t know a thing about what you were so venomously commenting on, while deriding me. You said I was full of it for saying wind turbines kill thousands of birds each year – try 40 million. Your unwarranted arrogance & self-importance is utterly disgusting for a human being & this discussion (if it passes for that) is like beating a dead horse. Anyone who sees this comment section here will know exactly who & what you are – you are transparent. I’m not going to say anymore because I’ve said all I want to & have much better things to do than argue with someone as pathetic as you. You are a nasty & unintelligent piece of work & either you believe your own lies or you are happy with how you conduct yourself. It doesn’t mean a thing to me. You are just not worth replying to anymore. I’ve already shown that you don’t know what you’re talking about & that you’re a liar.

PS who the fk doesn’t post with their real name on FB, somewhere I haven’t been for years, & no where on the internet do I post with my real name. Besides I fail to see a link between using one’s real identity & ego issues. You’re smarter than me? You have yet to show it – is that what all the big-boy slander was meant to prove? LOLOL. Good day.

        • Authentica

Wow I had forgotten all about those! They are beautiful, thanks for reminding me & that’s pretty funny you are now trying to attack my character with personal photos I shared online about 10 years ago as a teenager. Wow everybody knows my name & town of residence, better hurry out & buy a security system  Yet you are still a coward that can’t reveal your identity, although it’s obvious. Once again exposing your rotten personality whilst proving jack sh-t. GOOD DAY (& good riddance!).

        • @sshole

get your facts right idiot.. you said EVERY wind farm kills thosands..
          that is simply not true.

“Your unwarranted arrogance & self-importance is utterly disgusting for a human being & this discussion (if it passes for that) is like beating a dead horse”

why should i care if you want my opinion or not.. its not arrogant being right.. its just being right.. what have i said that is wrong you stupid tart

lol – im transparent.. you are clueless..

youre not going to engage any more eh? going to run away because youre full of sh*t

“PS who the fk doesn’t post with their real name on FB,” – this isnt facebook dreary…

i think ive proved im smarter than you because im not the one who thinks she can communicate with fairies ..

big boy slander? – where? – lol – youre retarded little troll eh?

dont like it when youre shown up on the internet? hurts your precious ego you pretentious wannabe esoteric hippy failure..

        • @sshole

lets boil it down shall we..

someone said it was 20000 dollars to get solar.. i said it wasnt. im right.
someone said if you get a hailstone – you lose power – i said untrue
someone said its not economical.. – personal experience says im 3000 a year better off..

etc.. you come with all your nonsense.. i simply say youve demonstrated ( on this site ) youre a total whackjob…

and then get your panties in a twist because i point out your idiocy..

dont like being called an idiot? stop being an idiot, idiot..

        • @sshole

“Yet you are still a coward that can’t reveal your identity, although it’s obvious. Once again exposing your rotten personality whilst proving jack sh-t. GOOD DAY (& good riddance!).”

coward? why am i a coward? why do you want to know who i am?

if its so obvious? who am i?

i never set out to prove anything idiot? who says im here to prove anything? all i did was correct some inaccurate statements .. based on my personal experience.. im not out to prove anything fool..

your an idiot.. dont get cranky at me for your stupidity

        • @sshole

good riddance? what a ridiculous thing to say…
you think you can just command me to disappear i suppose..

lol – you and your fairies..

ya know.. for someone who finds me so distasteful.. you sure seem to act like you cant get enough of me.. ya want to know who i am.. if i own a business.. i think you fancy me..

ive seen your pics though.. youre not my type.. bit too mongrel looking.. bit of a dogs breakfast

Goodness gracious, what a mix of informed and uninformed comments! The fact of the matter is that we pay much more for fossil fuel energy (FFE) than for solar (SE), but most people are unaware of the real price of FFE because it is largely hidden. In the US, there are much greater government (our tax dollars) subsidies to FFE than to SE, to the tune of billions of dollars. We also pay hundreds of billions of dollars on our military, whose primary purpose is access to other people’s FFs. Even less evident is the death and illness toll at home and abroad from FF extraction and processing. Finally, burning FFs is rapidly bringing our species to the brink due to anthropogenic climate change caused primarily by burning FFs. The cost comes to hundreds of billions of dollars, tens of thousands of lives, hundreds of thousands of climate refugees a year. We could easily pay for solar, wind, and other renewable energy for everyone with the savings reaped from ending our slavery to FFE, but first we have to have the will to stand up to the one percent who profit from FFE and war. The best beginning is to make our own energy, with money saved by rejecting consumerism, going local, reducing our ecological footprints, and voting for third party candidates with demonstrated leadership in sustainability. The poor can’t afford it, but they aren’t the problem: the affluent and their unsustainable lifestyles are the problem and they can afford to make the necessary changes.

Thank you, Paul. Tough to disagree with anything you’ve written here because those are the facts, despite being well hidden. Bravo.
