Chrisette's Eclectic Opus

From her straight laced R & B debut, I Am, to her Pop tinged Epiphany, to her militant stance on Let Freedom Reign and the sexy, Rock inspired Audrey Hepburn…..mixtape and her most recent masterpiece, Better, Chrisette Michele can do it all. I truly don’t understand why she’s still as underrated as she is. Plus, there’s no mistaking she has a voice that will blow 90% of the competition in her lane out of the water. True to form, she makes music that she feels, on her own terms, with her latest EP, The Lyricists’ Opus. Although it may not have many radio friendly singles, it’s still intriguing and beautifully unique nonetheless.

“My Favorite Thing That Ever Happened” opens up the EP and is a conversation between her and Justin Lyons, her guitarist. It sets the tone and lays out the theme of the EP, a free musical space with no judgment zones. “Art”, the funky first official track finds Chrisette comparing herself to the likes of such heavyweight as Prince, Beyonce and Sting. She states that it’s all art and a little bit of all of those people are found in her. She’s likely one of the few artists that has the talent to back up such a bold statement. On “Super Chris”, the moniker that she dubs for herself, she sets no limits. Here, she gives us her whole self, unapologetically. This song has a real easy going, breezy feel to it.
