GCC to Utilize Renewable Energy to Reduce Carbon Emissions

Environment Scrutiny Task Group announced that renewable energy is likely to be utilized to power the buildings of Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) in order to decrease carbon emissions and to save money. GCC is likely to save £5 million every year, generate income and become almost carbon neutral in the coming 10 years.
The council currently generates carbon worth nearly 60,000 tons every year. It spends over £8 million only on energy bills. Using renewable energy would enable Gloucestershire to generate and sell its own electricity. This will involve utilizing green technology like anaerobic digestion, wind turbines, and solar panels.
The council will conduct feasibility studies in the upcoming six months to decide on the usage of renewable energy. One idea is to establish a separate company to sell the generated surplus energy back into the grid. This will enable generating more income for the council.
GCC would require an investment of £180 million if it takes up all the scrutinized ideas. However, the investment will enable generating a return of £420 million every year. GCC would also be entitled to receive funding from the government if it decides to utilize renewable energy. If the renewable energy plans are feasible, they can generate further income of nearly £14 million.
