Part 40: Human Overload--National solutions

          Where do we start?  What on earth can anyone do to change the grave results of adding 100 million people to the United States by 2035?  What about the fact that the rest of humanity expects another three billion added by 2050?  Why won’t our leaders speak up about an issue so dire that it affects every American today and in the future?

          Why wouldn’t we question U.S. population growth when millions sit in gridlock traffic, breathe toxic air, pay more for everything, suffer water shortages—and know that it can only worsen?

Heck of a question!  Everyone runs from the answer

          As you can imagine—religions, emotions, cultures and history lock most humans into paradigms formed 2,000 years ago.  While such paradigms fail in the 21^st century, most humans cling to those beliefs as a life raft in the desert when they must search for water.  Capitalism, corporations and religions’ premises that humans can multiply forever shall prove our greatest obstacle to reasonable choices.

          As you read this information, you realize our civilization stands at risk.  What can you do?

          In all of recorded history, passionate men and women rose out of nowhere to take action to right some wrong.  Some became famous and most did not.   Fame meant nothing to them other than it became a byproduct of their actions.  Another aspect of their work rendered what Malcolm Gladwell called a “tipping point” in history where change occurred via the bravery and passion of common persons with uncommon determination. 

          That “tipping point” became critical mass that provoked American colonists to fight and die for their new country.  Susan B. Anthony provided a “tipping point” to gain voting rights for women.  In India, Gandhi’s walk to the sea provided a “tipping point” to oust the British.  Dr. Martin Luther King provoked the civil rights movement.

          Which great person in history inspires you?  John Muir?  Betsy Ross?  Teddy Roosevelt?  Charles Lindbergh?  ML King?  Barack Obama?  Michael Jordan? Amelia Earhart?  Michelle Obama?  Harry Truman?  Your dad?  Your mom?  What do they all possess in common?  Noble purpose!

That was their time; this is yours

          I invite you to bring your highest creative energy to this noblest hour in history.  What we do in the next decade will change the course of history for America and the world.  That can mean for better or worse, depending on our collective actions.

          How can we stop the United States from adding 100 million people?

          In this chapter of the book, we’ll examine logical, practical and reasonable choices to stabilize America’s population to a sustainable future for all citizens.  By taking actions for ourselves, we will inspire and invite other countries to establish their own choices.

          Since the U.S. female enjoys a 2.03 fertility level, it’s not America growing its population from within.  What causes our accelerating population growth?  Short answer: both legal and illegal immigration.

          Since you own or rent your dwelling, you may choose to invite 20 guests or 100 guests depending on your available space.  We as a nation must choose how many guests we can sustain in our “house.”

          Since legal and illegal immigration constitute the main sources of our population crisis, we must act to diminish the cause of over 2.4 million immigrants added annually.

          Yes, our actions will force overloaded nations to reconsider, change and solve their own population challenges.  Is it unreasonable for national and personal responsibility?

          We must consider and engage:

1. A TEN YEAR MORATORIUM ON ALL IMMIGRATION:  This would allow our country to regain its collective breath.  It would allow us to regain our schools, language, medical facilities, financial balance, ecological viability and order, which is necessary for a first world country to operate for all its citizens. 

We must employ a linkage strategy.  In other words, we must create a paradigm shift that employs all the following actions to reap a plausible future for humans in America.  A former congressman said, “The challenge is enormous and you have to talk about a moratorium.  You can’t talk about anything short of a moratorium because, frankly, anything less will never get you one step closer to population stabilization.”

In addition to a moratorium, we must engage a “Sustainable Immigration Policy” with a maximum of 100,000 immigrants annually—with needed skills to our benefit—that speak the English language before they arrive—in order to be considered for entry into the United States.  If that maintains our stable population, we can continue.  If not, we must maintain a moratorium.

Why the number 100,000 allowed into the USA annually?  That’s how many people egress the United States each year.  (Higher or lower depending on the year.)  Thus, we would enjoy a net gain of zero!  Whatever our annual immigration numbers into this country in the years ahead, we must balance it with humans leaving our country in order to maintain a stable and sustainable population.

We could entertain a farm guest worker program only if it stipulates that male workers enjoy an entry date for three months to a maximum of six months and an exit date.  No female or family members allowed.  Additionally, no ‘anchor babies’ or ‘instant citizenship’ allowed for foreign nationals’ babies born on U.S. soil.

Yes, we must work with Americans marrying foreign spouses and a few other visa considerations, but we must hold to our limited carrying capacity.

2.  A NATIONAL SUSTAINABLE POPULATION POLICY:  We must create a strategic plan or vision for the future of  the United States of America.   How many people can this nation hold and still maintain our standard of living and quality of life?  How can we maintain it in order to provide the “American Dream” opportunity for all citizens?  How can we maintain enough water and farmland to feed ourselves instead of depending on elusive imports from other countries as climate change and gasoline become more critical?  What is our population limit?

Some people will make the charge, “That’s population control!  How terrible!”  Thankfully, since 1970, the U.S. female has averaged 2.03 children, thus a steady and balanced population.

Additionally, other western countries enjoy replacement birth rates, but suffer overwhelming immigration rates that exceed their carrying capacities. The United Kingdom expects an additional 11 million people within two decades, virtually all of it, via immigration.  They cannot possibly survive such an onslaught.  Already over their carrying capacity at 21 million people on a continent that features 96 percent desert, neither can Australia!  Therefore, you may engage with the following organizations.

We must encourage and maintain a two children or less family policy.  We can do it by choice today because we already stand at 2.03 children per American female.  We can utilize positive income tax deductions for two or less children and negative income tax for families that choose more than two children.  If we wait, we’ll be in the same boat as the Chinese with forced one child per family.

Of course, religious leaders will scream ‘abortion’ and other critical name calling.  No!  A population policy gifts us with choices for birth control before our civilization runs out of options.  As it stands today, worldwide, women undergo 43 million abortions annually.  A simple birth control program would go a long way in correcting that human tragedy.   Or, do we and church leaders prefer millions dying of starvation annually as they wallow in misery from hyper-population growth?

           In addition, we must enact a state by state policy—I live in Colorado,  

           so a “Colorado Sustainable Population Policy” to determine how many 

           people can live in Colorado within the water, food, land and resources

 in my state.  Obviously California can hold more than Rhode Island, etc.

3. A NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT POLICY: The U.S. and all countries must deal with the sobering reality of  stabilizing human population.  We must stop causing exploding extinction rates to all other creatures on this planet by our own expanding numbers.   As head of the free world, we must lead in the understanding that an environmental impact policy will give other creatures and future generations a sustainable planet.  Without it, we drive forward with no idea of where we’re heading and where we’ll end up.  China already suffers horrible consequences and India is even worse because it keeps driving its civilization over a cliff as it adds another 400 million by 2050.  We must not follow their paths!

          Each state must implement an “Environmental Impact Policy” to determine

          how many people will allow enough land and habitat for animals in   

          that state.  Every state must develop these policies along with a “Water

          Usage Policy.”

4. MANDATORY RECYCLING LAWS:  Additionally, we must move toward a national 10 cent deposit/return recycling law on every piece of plastic, glass and metal sold out of retail stores to guarantee 99 percent recycling to stop the carnage of our environment with throwaways.

     5. NATIONAL WATER CONSERVATION POLICY; NATIONAL

ENERGY CONSERVATION POLICY; NATIONAL LAND CONSERVATION POLICY:  We need to implement conservation policies that will directly affect future generations on a positive scale.  To continue helter-skelter growth and expansion without a plan will create irreversible consequences and unsolvable problems for future citizens of the United States.

          6. FAMILY PLANNING WORLDWIDE:  The United States and other

first world nations need to assist other countries with family planning

methods.  Birth control is a major aspect of family planning.  Without it, third world countries suffer endless population increases and degradation.  During one of my lectures a student asked, “How can we force other countries to have two child families…isn’t that overstepping our bounds?”

To answer that question, I said, “No, we can never infringe on other cultures or countries.  We can only offer them the means and ability to bring their societies into population stasis.  If they choose otherwise, they will find that nature proves to be the ultimate population arbiter.”

Lester Brown, Plan B 3.0, wrote: “Population growth, which contributes to all the problems discussed here, has its own tipping point.  Scores of countries have developed enough economically to sharply reduce mortality but not yet enough to reduce fertility.  As a result, they are caught in the demographic trap—a situation where rapid population growth begets poverty and poverty begets rapid population growth.  In this situation, countries eventually tip one way or the other.  They either break out of the cycle or they break down.”

To subsist, the Catholic Church, Protestants, Buddhists, Hindu, Islam and other religions that continually work against family planning must step out of the Dark Ages and into the 21^st century.  We can promote education that spotlights and unhinges their entrenched thinking based on concepts that formed 2,000 years ago.  Humans can no longer usurp nature’s laws via hyper-population growth. 

It’s not logical to think any of these great religions would transform toward rational action by accepting family planning any time soon.  Therefore, we must take care of our citizens first to ensure our country’s viability. After that, we may continue our assistance worldwide.

7. DEVELOPMENTAL ASSISTANCE:  First world countries need to assist with development, housing, education, fresh water, family planning and health care for countries that suffer from this planet-wide population crisis.  Help them in their own countries.  That means tractors, crop techniques, irrigation, etc.  No financial aid because money tends to go into the hands of the leaders.

8. ELECT SENATORS AND CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES WHO REPRESENT AMERICANS:  One of the reasons Congress and our presidents have created this national atrocity stems from their entrenchment in the ‘good old boy’ network.  As long as they represent massive immigration as well as corporations who pander to this predicament, you will not see change.  You must elect leaders who will take action on behalf of Americans, and really, humanity. 

A scant 50 percent of Americans vote in national elections.  Local elections rate less than 20 percent participation most of the time.  More Americans see this crisis and step up to the plate.  They must run for office in many states. 

9.The most important factor for saving America, and really, the planet:

you!  Use the Internet with web sites that create collective action.  Connect with all Americans!  Use your money and your time!  Stand up!  Write!  Call!  Educate on radio talk shows!  Call on TV networks and express your concerns.  Express your ideas!  Be heard!  Be seen!  Be passionate!  Demand!  Expect action!  Become action in motion!  Instead of watching the news, become the news by your actions!
